Hey. love your car first off! I bought the Vorsteiner Hood a litlle while back, and it doesnt really sit flush w/ the fender towards the middle part of the hood... did you have any fitment issues? did you alter it in any way. I'm going to be adding the aerocatches similar to yours as soon as the shipment comes in. I'm wondering if mine is warped or something. Anyway, thanks for any help.

It's been a while, but thought we would update the thread/build with some of the other changes we have made to further enhance the performance of the car, but stay within the guidelines we had set to build a great street car that can do battle at the track, vs a track car that can be driven on the street. Big difference there, and it really is easy to slip from one mode to the other.
When we were preparing the car for the Global Tuner Grand Prix (Laguna Seca, October 2010) where we finished 2nd in class (only losing to TCKline in his Porsche Boxster Sypder special).
Items added -
2nd oil cooler, left hand fender well, using the oil distribution block from ARDesign. A great enhancement, but still not enough cooling - we added some data acquisition stuff to the car to map both engine cooling temps vs the oil temps, and its the oil temps that are still killing the ability to get more power out of the car. We're at about 425hp at the flywheel, and could dial in more, if not for the oil temp issue.....we can literally run right at 275 degrees on the oil, but as soon as we hit 276 degrees, we can feel the engine mgmt intervene and retard timing (hence power)....until you push beyond 290 and you can get limp mode. We will add more cooling this winter when we move to the 1M type wide body kit and get the proper area and ducting needed at the front of the car, besides the wonderful increase in front tire size and track width.
Data - a fun tool that you all can use fairly cheaply. I'm sure many of you know this, but if you buy a new Garmin, you can buy an OBDII cable to gain access to many engine functions, and select "TOOLS" from the menu, then select your gauge options, and viola....you have a nice LCD gauge panel that you can mount anywhere....plus, its got all the other features of the Garmin...easy tool to use and cheap. Easier than buying a custom gauge pod, and it can move to whatever car you want to use it with.
Downpipes - we have been running Mach Schnell catless downpipes....great fitment, beautiful flanges, great integration, and great performance....but, for the GTGP, we had to run street legal form for CA, and that meant w CATS. So, we installed ARDesign's units, and again, great fitment, great construction, and great performance as well. We were surprised at how well the sport cats worked compared to the catless versions. Both are HUGE improvements to the performance of the car, but also be aware of the jump in volume your exhaust system will have (we have a BRracing custom center section, and Eisenmann race rear section)....we LOVE the sound of this car, both on the street, and on the track.
Diff - lots of options here - WaveTrack, Quaiffe, OSGiken, and Custom - we went for the custom route, as we were looking for the ulitmate in performance. We upgraded the rear diff carrier using the 335i early unit (which has a larger casing), and then used the auto gear set (3:46 vs 3:05 stock on our car), and then had a custom clutch pack diff built by Performance Gearing (thanks Jim)....a HUGE impact in the performance on the track...and literally changes the whole behavior when exiting turns....wow, what a change. We think the new gear ratio works great and I have not noticed much difference when driving the car on the street....not excessive shifting required...so, a win-win there as well.
We added the BMW Performance rear trunk lip (as we had to use OEM body parts to meet the requirements of the rules (but don't ask about the front lip)). Since we did this w the change in diff, can't say how much of a difference we had, but it does feel more planted at speeds above 60mph.

Here are some pics of the car after the enhancements and the event -

And, if you want to know what the car looks like at Laguna Seca, coming out of the corkscrew, under full power, at the bottom of the compression....take a look at this pic...and look real close. We had NO RUBBING, the AST suspension was AWESOME, and we didn't bottom out....what a blast to fly thru there....woo hoo.

Amazing how much MORE awesome this car is now from how awesome it was at the start of this thread. And seeing you roll down the corkscrew at Laguna Seca is something out of a Forza or Gran Turismo game. Made me jealous.

Absolute inspiration. Yours is my favorite 135i out there. I was all over it in seeing the car in person at Bimmerfest last year. Keep up the great work representing us 1addicts.

The rims are APEX wheels...and we can get them for you if interested. Available in black, bright silver, anthracite....."flow formed"....and fully track tested LOTS...by us. We have multiple sets for our track use, and daily driver use. We love them, and a GREAT price.
Let us know (contact us at 408-356-1515 or brracing@gmail.com). Thanks for all the support....still more to come on our BMW 135i....look for a clone kit to make our 135i look like a 1M, but a little better....stay tuned.
