Wavetrac install, new bearings?
I'm fixing to install a wavetrac and after several days of searching found that rock auto list some bearings for the 335. It appears that the bearings thy sell are roller and not ball like the factory. Has anyone tried these?
Bearing numbers below Diff bearing LM503349A. Race LM503310 Pinion bearing HM 88542, HM 89449. Race HM89410, HM88510 From what I read BMW switched to the ball bearings to reduce operating temperature. |

So how about telling us how you like your LSD. We'd all love to hear about how different the car drives now. Also... did you do an initial diff fluid change? 1K miles.
What made you go with Wavetrac ?

Thanks for the update. Could you please share what c-clips / shims you ended up using as well? Or any other challenges you may have encountered?

C clips are a total crap shoot, mine started out from the factory with 3.72 and 3.82. I ended up with 3.64 and 3.60. Some people say you have to secure the drive shaft with a crow bar, I didn't need to. I just used some 12" race ramp blocks for the rear and standard ramps for the front wheels. Gave me plenty of room to work under it, I removed the heat shield covering the drive shaft but didn't need to. I used a tusk 50mm wrench for ATVs and a 1/2 inch breaker bar that made short work of the big nut on the driveshaft.
One thing is be careful driving the new seals in the diff, there is a spring on the inside of the seal that can spring off, mine did. The odds of using the same shims IMO are slim. As far as driving, it's great! The power gets down to the ground, rear wiggles and the car goes!! No more alternating spinning..... One last thing, the bolts for the diff cover are a little weak, I replaced mine because I over torqued them by accident. |

I haven't had much seat time, but I love it! The reason I went with wavetrac is no clutches to wear out, I've done that before...

Where did you get your c clips for shimming? Im about to to start this exact install this week. I had planned on reusing my factory bearings? Did you touch the pinion at all?

The only place I know to order them from is wavetrac. Didn't touch the pinion, no need to. I ordered 4 c clips once I knew about what I needed and they worked for me.
