Engine overheated. Help?
Hi everyone.
This afternoon my car decides to say the engine temp is too high, then it said it overheated. I was on the gold coast highway, outside the casino, and the car had absolutely no power to even get me to stop somewhere safely. So pretty much stuck in a carpark, outside the Cas... Lol Now question, I have a jb4 and an intake, and I'm covered by BMW extended warranty and roadside assist. I can take the jb4 out, but would leaving the BMS intake in, have any dramas with my warranty? Closest dealer is Bruce Lynton. Does anyone know if i'll have any issues with them? My stock intake is in Brisbane, at home, so it's not something I can replace at the spur of the moment.. I'm pretty sure it's the water pump and/or thermostat, as the oil temp is normal... If anyone can chime in, it would be appreciated. Cheers, Pete. |

Just call up any dealer and say you are thinking about switching your intake.
Ask them if it will affect / void your warranty. I probably wouldnt mention my name or rego etc, im not sure if they keep record of those sorts of things. Im sure someone who has more experience with this will chime in soon. |

I've been to the dealer with intake in before and they didn't have a problem with it. Have been back since for warranty work.

Just be wary as a not so kind dealer may say the overheating was caused by the DCI and heat soak.

But if it is overheating because of a pump/thermostat then you should be right. There is no reason why the car would overheat due to heat soak unless its like 50degrees outside and your hammering it at the track.

I did a waterpump 3 1/2 months out of warranty. Dealer knows I have a tune and they replaced the pump under warranty for me. Description sounds pretty much like my experience when the pump went.

There is no BMW Aust owned dealership this way. Every dealer is going to have it fixed under warranty if they can. They can't refuse warranty if the problem is not related to the mod.

Thanks for the replies, everyone:
Update: Got the car towed to Bmw at southport, They couldnt give a loan car, because they apparently had none available at the time. (needed to get to brisbane) The Dealer Rep told me that dropping me off to brisbane wasnt an option, but they said they were happy to drop me off at the train station... :/ I Wasnt too happy about that. Called up Roadside assist, and they sorted out a cab for me to get back to Brisbane. Anyways, just got the call, telling me it was the electric coolant pump and the thermostat. Just as suspected. I got the JB4 out last night, left the intake in, and they said they should be good to go with the repair. |
