3 year old 135i with 100,000kms

Hey guys, just wanted some input from everyone on a 3 year old (2009) 135i with 100,000kms.

- What are everyones thoughts on the longevity of the 135i and the N54 engine? Do you expect lots of expensive repairs to start cropping up after 100,000kms?

- Assuming the average 2009 135i with around 40,000kms has a market value of $50,000, what would you regard to be a fair value of an identical car with over twice the mileage?

Essentially, having owned a 135i, would you be comfortable purchasing an out-of-warranty 135i with 100,000kms on the clock? If not, at what price would it start to be tempting?

*Lets assume the car is in decent condition with servicing as per BMW recommendations.

Cheers!

Given there are lots to choose from, I'd just pass a car like that over and keep looking. I wouldn't buy it at any price.

Wow! So many k's! Convertible? Colour? Options? I would think it would sell around the 25k mark having extremely high k's.

Blondey is right to a certain extent, what you have to keep in mind is that there are always guys after a great buy. Unfortunately with those km's the car will need to be sold at a bang for your buck price.

I gather you're looking at this one? http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...nd=135i|CarAll

Why are you considering a high km car? Did you email the seller the link to this very thread lol...

I'm very hesitant as well, but why not? Should i not trust a 135i past 100,000kms?

I think despite being very hesitant to buy out of warranty and with such high kms, I'd jump on it at $25k...doubt it would ever go that low if you consider that 100,000kms sort of reflects a 5 yr old car, i dont think 135i's would drop to $25k in another 1-2yrs

I think thats the way I'll have to look at it, I'd only take it if it was a bargain...but the question is what is a bargain price?

No I think a BMW will hold up fine. Obviously once you go past the 80,000 kms mark the service history is more and more important and you need to do more stuff to get her going.

It's more that you can buy any one of a number of identical cars wit ha lot less kms.

My only comment would be that shiv's car has something like 70k MILES, so call it 100klms and they ha e been hard miles and it is holding up quite well they say.

Lets look at a worst case scenario, what are the most expensive parts that can fail and how much would I be looking at to replace/repair? eg. turbochargers, engine, transmission..

BMW makes a great car and they really do hold up well, but as with any car that does this kind of mileage you need to toss up the options of getting something that could cost you BMW-style.

I've had older cars, and the more prestige the car the more you spend if things go wrong (not saying it will of course, we love our baby bimmers!).

I doubt they are going to drop their pants on the price to make the benefits outweigh the risks for you, so for the price you are probably going to end up paying I agree completely with Mr Blonde, plenty of better fish in the sea.

Also it may be well worth checking the east coast for deals on an MY09.

I wouldn't pay more than $35k for it. Actually I'd rather get a 2009 with 20-30k km for $55-60k.

I don't think it would go into the 30s (it could though depending on what it looks like irl). I think low $40k would be the sweet spot to sell this car. If I was selling it I'd be putting it on the market at $42,900 with a spot on detail inside and out and with lots of interior shots to show wear and tear.... knowing I might have to come down another grand to get it moved.

In fact... a good start would be EBay @$39,900

My car had less than 40,000km on it when I bought it late last year for $48,500 so really... $55k is way, way off the mark.

My car is a 2009, with just under 100k kms on it. There's no way he'll sell it for $55k. It really only has 2 options (nav and sunroof), and doesn't say what kind of nav?

Tell him he's dreamin!

But speaking from experience with a car with that many kms, I haven't had an issue. But I treat mine pretty well, and the way I drive may have something to do with that. Hell, I've only just replaced the front brake pads!
