Replacing trunk button at tail gate.
Hello,
The rubber pad on the boot release button at the truck has worn thru, I have the replacement part but how do I remove it to install the new part? Thanks. |

You mean the electric switch at the driver's feet? On the A-pillar near the OBD port. ???

I suspect you would access it from behind. Here is a third brake light DIY... remove the same rear trunk lid cover and gain access that way. I bet it bolts in. Third brake light DIY... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...php?p=14133252 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=41&fg=60&hl=5

I could have probably pulled it out completely if I had tilted/rotated the piece and pulled. |

All that complexity where a simple button (which doesn't need electrical power) to release the trunk would have sufficed...

I finally got around to change that switch.
I didn't have to go in from the rear. Using a small flat nose screwdriver, just gently pry the switch out. There is a small area on the switch where allows you to pry where the metal clip holds the switch to the trunk. Remove the old switch, unplug the wire socket and replug it into the new switch. Replace the new switch back into the truck. It will click into place. All in, took me 2 mins max to do. |
