E-90 wins in the Motor Trend comparison.(feb issue)
the conteders: Lexus IS 350 and MB C350 sport.
Some lines from the article,"Think of the term sport sedan and the brain sculpts bavarian sheetmetal with blue and white roundel" "The 330i steps up to the firing lane all new to play the dual roles of assassin and target" the verdict:1st place BMW 330i(red)"gave me a hard on"Quincy. Benchmark,standard,yardstick,epitome,quintessence-yeah,all of that. 2nd place Lexus IS350(silver) Look in your rearview mirror ,BMW,Lexus is coming fast-very fast. 3rd place M-B C350 SPORT(dark blue) Fast but not so furious-the perfect benz for the furtive drag racer. I don't think we are biased when we( e90 heads) think we have a great car. Disclaimer:This post wasn't intended to be offensive, hurtfull etc.I ain't got nothing but love fo y'all. Thanks! |

If the BMW had a diesel or a Hybrid (puke) in the USA they would have given MT a lot more to think about, but since they refuse to bring the Diesel over, the Civic gets this one. (IMHO)

What about cornering? Since i beleive E90 has the better handling and steering, should the E90 get the lead for cornering? |

Motor Trend has had its ups and downs over the years. Car and Driver and Autoweek have been much more consistent.
MT has totally revamped its publication over the last several months under new leadership, and now it is trying very hard to copy C/D and Automobile. They're doing a good job, because it is now pretty good reading. But prior to this latest incarnation, it really got off course and sucked, geared towards the lowest common denominator, which they've now left behind under Angus whatshisname. I've always had a problem with the way MT does it's Car of the Year competitions. I think it's wrong IMHO, and C/D and Autoweek have it right. Who cares which car is best of only the new models introduced in a given year? What if there are no good new cars that year? (example: Motor Trend chose the Caprice Classic as COTY in 1990.) The real question in my mind is which car - new or old - is the best car that year. The Civic is definitely not the best of either, although it is arguably one of the best in the economy compact market. The other mags competitions are right by choosing the 10 best new cars, one in each category, and even if they have been in production for more than a year. 3-Series routinely get their recognition in these competitions, and they really help to show the industry leaders where the trends are.

Thanks Attorney. Perhaps I was too hasty in my condemnation. I will buy a couple issues and give MT another chance. I hope that iI will be able to agree with you.
