Sport mode problem on my auto trans

My 2008 128i (55k+ miles) just lost its sport mode. The car shifts fine in normal drive mode, but when I pull the shifter left to go into Sport mode, it stays in Drive mode. The paddles still can be used to shift manually, but no Sport auto mode.

I did not find any similar issues when searching, but I may not have searched well enough. Is this a problem any of you have experienced? Known issue? Easy fix or big BUCKS?

Same here, although if I'm extra gentle with it, I can get it to engage in DS Mode. Seems like a lose connection wherever it signals the switch. Anyone???

Have you checked the transmission fault memory for codes? That would be where I would start.

Had the same thing happen. There is a wire that breaks in the shifter mechanism. I fixed mine with about an hours worth of work. The biggest problem was getting the console out and in. Here is a thread in e90 post.

That's exactly it. OP, pop off the shifter cover and first make sure that all your plugs are securely in- try to reseat them. Otherwise, you're looking at fixing the short.
