BMW Canada

Did anyone ever get a follow up to this? Also does anyone have any Canadian media describing the engraving? I think those that haven't received it should get something.

I heard that it was decided that none of the Canadian cars were supposed to have it and the ones who got it just got lucky. I don't have a source though.

I did call BMW Canada. I was told through the guy on the phone this;

"That is for USA only"

It sucks. So lets be Canadian and just suck it in, and take it...

I believe it is now, but that's not the way it started.
All the early 1ers built for Canada (production dates pre Feb 20th) had the "Year one of the 1" starter button (as does mine).
I still suspect that the engraved starter button (in English) ran afoul of Canada's official languages act, which requires bilingual packaging:
"The Act provides that a product must carry bilingual packaging and labelling if said product is
intended to be sold in an area that has a Francophone population of more than 10%. Moreover where
a logo contains the trade mark and the generic name of a product, the description of the product
must appear in both languages."

My guess is that BMW Canada got a polite call from les gendarmes de language and voila, no more offensive English only engraving..
I fully expect BMW Canada to send me a sticky label with "Anee une de la 1" which I can stick under the starter button..

Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but if the first month did have it then shouldn't the owners get the binder and certificate as well. Thought BMW would/could have stepped up to address this a little better. What's the deal with the M dead pedals then?

Yah, it's a demo and was probably put into service at launch - which would give it an early production date (e.g. pre mid Feb).

What gets me, is that why can't BMW CA see that getting a little engraving on the start button gives a whole sense of "uniqueness" to the first year of owners ... such a small investment can give such a huge return.

Damaged M3's and 1 Series

Did anyone see the article in Car and Driver (if not was Road & Track) that showed a shipload of damaged M3's and 1's? It said some of the cars were scrapped while some were fixed and sold. I wonder who has one of the "fixed and sold" cars?

Maybe thats where our engraved cars came from??? Its all getting clear now...
HA.

Not only were they "fixed and sold", their production numbers and VINs were obviously altered to reflect production dates well after the date the Shipload accident took place....

nah I don't think they are allowed to do that, that's illegal I think - like turning back the odometer.

Picked up my barebones Lemans Blue 135i (M-sport package, USB audio) last week, and it does NOT have the engraving. Happy I got the M dead pedal, though.

Picked it up last week and mine came with it. Sorry, forgot to post this. It's been raining like crazy in Calgary the last week and a bit so I haven't had any really nice days to take pics yet (and that one good day I was driving :P)

Picked mine up a month ago (Apr 30), AW 135i coupe, M Sport, USB, Sunroof, from dealer stock. No engraving, no M deadpedal, no book. Doesn't matter to me.

PC Valkyrie, when you say M dead pedel by that do you mean you received the M sport foot rest?

Yes, that is exactly what I mean. Here is a pic (with the blue plastic film still on to protect the brushed silver aluminum):
