Review: Cool Carbon Brake Pads
So I Have 60k miles on my 135i so I am due up for a Brake Job, Oem rotors and sensor cost $700 , Cool Carbon Brake Pads from EAS cost $213 shipped, and labor was $340 at indy shop. So i paid around $1250 total better than $1600 at dealership which probably woudlnt let me use my pads.
When i got my car back i noticed that the rotors was shiny and the indy shop did not bed them yet. So i followed the instruction and went from 65mph to 10 mph 15 times from moderate braking to aggressive then back to moderate, in two sets and of course driving around in between to cool off. When i got out of the car i notice a thin dark layer around my rotors. After the bedding the pads had a little more bite. So driving around after the bedding the biggest differnce between the oem and Carbons was the bite differnce and the braking was alot smoother and not as jerky as oem. accourse i havent notice any brake dust cause it was my first day, but i will report on it soon. No squealing or much noise, noise only came when i let off the brakes slowly, but alot quieter than oem. |

Wow I think that's the most expensive brake job ever!

I agree that the braking is much more linear and smooth compared to the stock pads, however you WILL notice squealing off n on when the pads get hot. Times i dont notice it is after a cold start, right after it rains or i wash the car or if im just driving 5-10 minutes to work. Otherwise if i go for a considerable drive, anything to get the pads hot nuff, it squeals, and i had my shop apply the noise-free shit to them twice, once when they were installed, then again a few months after, completely removed them, did the whole bit, bedded em in again. Still squeaks. Thats just that i guess.

I haven't had any squeaking when the pads are hot at all, nor cold. I don't even have the quiet gel crap in there either.

just swapped out for some cool carbons for my DD. they are quiet and low dust. braking perf is so so...better than OE but not as good as Hawk HPS/ HP-Plus. But not loud and annoying either like Hawk HPS. HP-Plus are the loudest freakin brakes and you an hear me down the block squeeking away, but have incredible stopping power. Very happy with the CC.

I have a set of Cool Carbons sitting on the shelf.... got a couple of more mm's to go befor the light comes on.. Hopefully i wear them out before my next event ...
Overall from all the reviews, i sense they are a good compromise for a weekend warrior track day guy and greater overall street performance, with the added bonus of low dust..

Anyone have any suggestions as to the best deal/place to buy CC's? Did a search, not finding much in the way of deals on these pads....? Thanks in advance.

Anyone had any problems with the cool carbon pads after washing the car. On two separate occasions I have found the pads stuck to the rotors after washing the car (about 6 hours without moving the car).
Moving the car frees the pads from the rotors but leaves a corroded spot on the rotor that causes excessive vibration. Re bedding the pads helps a little. I actually changed the rotors after the first incident.
