Test drives

"Refusing to let anyone test drive without paying a deposit first seems pretty dodgy though."
I think I would do that when I advertise mine - I am sick of test pilots over the years not really sure which type of car they want then trying yours, wasting an hour of your time but then offering you a wholesale price or 10 k under asking. I think its ok to determine if you will agree on price prior to some random driving your car. A chat about price /deposit means the person is a buyer not a tyre kicker.

Unless your offering the convenience of a trade in then don't offer a whole sale price.

I bought a mint condition '08 with iDrive, Sat Nav and sunroof, and with only 62,000 km's on it for $41,000. Couldn't be happier.
EXCEPT - I had an injector failure soon after (something that could have been fixed for free earlier under a recall) and it cost me nearly $3,000. So be wary of that.

3k, jeebus. Out of curiosity how many hours labour did they charge you and how much were the injectors?

I just changed mine last weekend (injector 4-6), about 3-4 hours and 165USD each.

3k? They saw you coming .. One injector is about $161+o-ring+post From ECS... You can get away with just one, or at most 3 (one bank), as a dealer will force you to with the new injector, though it's been proven unneccessary.

All 6 is ~$999... And a couple hundred labour on top, or DIY is super easy

Just FYI for next time

Fuel injectors were $371 each inc mounts, plus 4 hrs labour @ $118 per hr. All plus GST.
I was getting intermittent shuddering from the engine, so wasn't going to wait around to get them delivered. Plus I wouldn't touch it myself.
If I could though, I'd do it differently...
