to delete, or not delete, that is the question

soooooo many exhaust options out there, just got me a 2012 128i 'vert with the n52k manual trans
want more sound without breaking the bank or looking like a fanboy. seen everything on here from catless headers+golf tee+res/muff delete, to just a 135i muffler install. I'm thinking of the golf tee and instead of full muff delete replace with a glasspack, essentially adding a second resonator. cant really find too much in the way of others experience/sound clips of such a low cost setup other than straight pipe

Just get the muffler delete. If you want more then that get a res delete and the 135i muffler. Right is I have the Res and muffler delete but I'm prepping the 135i muffler now.

I feel like the muffler AND resonator delete is too much, too tinny

It's not to bad. Past 5k it does get tiny and raspy. The plan for me in the next week or two is to put the 135i muffler on and have a valves cutout behind it. Eventually I'm going with headers and no cats with a resonator.

One of my favorite systems based on videos here is catless mid pipes + stock resonator + 135i muffler. Very nice sound.

Here's my experience in terms of setups. From quietest to loudest.

1. Stock Exhaust
2. Catless Headers with stock everything else.
3. Headers, stock secondaries, magnaflow resonator and muffler.
4. Stock car and exhaust with muffler delete.

Yep....#4 was louder than #3 which is what I have now. My current exhaust reminds me of my old E46 M3.

think I've decided to replace factory muffler with a flowmaster hp-2 with a 911 tip, and eventually headers, stock secondaries and resonator

Just do a muffler delete you'll barely notice a sound change with the golf tee mod I've done so many exhaust setups on my car muffler delete was easily best sound for the money.

I use to have a flowmaster then I chopped it off it was to quiet and droney. Got less drone with it off.
This is my old setup resonator delete and muffler delete the car to me still seemed pretty quiet lol

If you want more exhaust clips of my old setup hit me up on Instagram since the forums don't let you post long videos @issa_n5x

Went with a muffler delete a few days ago, loving it so far. $45 + tips, and has a perfectly reasonable sound level. Gives cold starts some oomf, loud enough to actually hear in the cabin around town, and doesn't drone at all. Only time I've found it annoying so far is in the low 2k range, when the exhaust is starting to get loud but road noise doesn't drown it out. Easily fixed with music though.

Once I get everything else on the car situated I might splurge and get the 135i PE to get a more "refined" sound, but for now I am very happy with the muffler delete.

ok, went with a flow master HP-2 as a replacement for the resonator and deleted the muffler and it sounds phenomenal, zero drone, has a decent low burble, pops during shift that arent overwhelming, gets decently aggressive at high rpm without making it sound like a farting bowl of rice, I think this is damn near perfect for a near luxury vehicle driven by someone with hair on their no-no parts

listen to it on a good speaker to hear what it actually sounds like, phone just doesnt do justice

Flowmasters sounded great on my 88 Mustang GT and it sounds great on your 128.

I'd be interested to see a side-by-side comparison of a standard muffler+res delete vs. your setup. Currently very happy with my muffler delete but if adding an aftermarket res would add even more tone and burbles without adding drone or too much volume I'd definitely be interested.

from all the videos I've seen, mine is deeper and quieter and significantly less raspy, than just a muffler/resonator delete.

It sounds pretty good, I just did a res-delete to a 135i stock muffler, I'll post a video soon when I get it uploaded, it sounds more like an e46 m3 then yours, aka a bit more raspy, but I like it

Thank you for not being a cheapskate and doing a muffler and resonator delete like, literally, everyone else. That sounds really good!

Just don't throw your your resonator. And muffler. You'll need it back when you do the headers. Which I highly recommend!

Sounds good. But still quieter that aa headers, stock resonator, and bmwPE. Which sounds like angry e46M3. And lots of burble
