"M1" R.I.P?

Well just the name anyway.

According to Scott27 over at the German Car Forum, the M1 may not be the M1 anymore:
Quote:
Today , we have decided on what to call the car .

There is an M in the title although not the obvious term.
They did not "Bite The bullet"

It will be called the 1er sDriveCSL3.5isTiiTurbo
That was humour by the way.

I cannot reveal the title yet.

Now we push ahead with the marketing , something like this in a city environment. I would like to hear the car's exhaust reverberate off the enclosed walls of a tunnel.

Coasting , Cruising and then finally going nuts... on the streets of LA.

Who cares about the name :-P This car is sick!!
I could imagine they call it M Coupe or something like this. or like they say it will be the M car with lightweight and so on I think it could be called just:
M Series

Here is what Scott said. I am glad BMW kept the first M car sacred, as the only M1.

As far as I'm concerned we can't deduce anything from Scott's statement. He just said its not the "obvious." Obvious to whom is the question?!?

IMO, I would prefer they call it an M1 but I dont care at this point either. Just dont price the damn thing too much like an M. The cheapest entry price into an M coupe today is 58K. Yiikes! We are certain the the M division had their hands ALL OVER THIS car and they are absolute mad. So they'll massage a mad car!

That's gay. I wanted an M1 .... i guess as long as it has an M in the name then they'll have to make sure it performs like an M. Unfortunately, the average joe out there probably won't even know your driving a M car if it's called a 1M

Scott said that BMW did not "bite the bullet." In one of his other posts, he said that they had been doing surveys and the name most people picked was M1 and that most said it should be the proper name for the car so that it fits in with the M3, M5, M6 names. In that same post he said: "BMW may have to bite the bullet." So I think this means that M1 is out of the question. If they don't call it M1 then I hope they call it M Coupe or something and not 1M. I hate the 1M name. The worse case would be M135i, LOL.

An average person doesn't know/can tell the difference between an 328i and an M5, lol.

I think he way saying the name will not be the "obvious" combination of 1 and M, M1.

We will probably see 1///M on the back.

It's always got to be something.

Now let's butcher the name. 135im, 135m1, 1m135(m3), M=135, ARRGGHH

I think they should call it something other than the ///M1. I'm sort of a purist and feel that they should keep the ///M1 badging only on the car that started it all back in 1978.

Or they could do like they did with the Z3/Z4 ///M cars.

Funny that.......because, I'm wondering if they have chosen to call it the M135CSi, as a homage to the 2nd ///M car built after the M1, the brilliant M635CSi

But, of course, the name of this was changed to M6 for the US market....

I see a big opportunity for an aftermarket vendor selling "///M1" badges to replace whatever insignia BMW sticks on the car at the factory.

That's how the original M6 and M5 were badged.

If it will not be called M1 I will not buy the "1 Series M". Do you here BMW. I do not care about the old Lamborghini BMW. Anyway, what for does BMW need to keep the name M1 if anyway the will never build any Supercar?
