Just in time for the year's first snow storm had the tire rack suggested combo put on the car. Went with 17x8" KM 11's and Dunlop D3 205's.

The car drives great on dry, wet and in snow. Plus the fact that I'm off rft's makes the ride much nicer - the stocks are going to see an accelarated life-span once spring comes back.

In the meantime, what I thought would be a garaged winter will instead see me looking forward to snow - the car's a dream with the safety nets on and these tires. Plus I think that the KM11's look really good with the BSM paint. The whole package was $1,200 including install at the local tire shop.

Good stuff. If you're still on the fence, get your order in.

No TPMS - I also ordered the flat kit, but that's on back-order. TPMS is extra, but I figured never had them, never missed them type of thing.

Do you have to recalibrate the speedo going from 18" to 17" wheels?

my winter tire kit consists of a different vehicle with 4 wheel drive. MY 135 is staying in the garage whenever there's a hint of snow. We live in a very hilly area with very tight streets and I can't even imagine driving that car there in the snow.

Nice Pictures. The scenery makes it look like driving in the snow is a clean fun affair. But here in Seattle the road are icy, sandy dirty. Driving the van, the rear is so dirty in a few minutes, it's amazing... Like others....The 1 is safely in the garage.

Don't you get the constant tire warning light w/o the TPMS?

I don't think so - then again, I didn't ask. The combo of smaller rim with a bit bigger tires is pretty close in circumference. Interesting question though - figured tire rack may have alerted me to it, they've been great.

Same here. The car's dirty, but I love driving it, and so I'll just spray down once a week.

It's a small icon on the instrument panel. It's completely unobtrusive - now if the anoying seatbelt gong went off....that'd be a different story altogether.

Anyone know what the road clearance is on a 1-series? Four, maybe five inches? My point is that when snow accumulation gets six inches or so, the car will hang up on the snow and snow tires won't matter any more. Annual six inch snowfalls are pretty much guaranteed in the northeast.

The investment in a snow tire/rim package will only be useful in a pretty narrow range of winter weather -- light snow. That $1,200 will go a long way toward a beater Jeep, Explorer or Blazer to use in bad weather and keep the 1-series all comfy warm and salt-free in the garage.

This statement about the snow being over 6 inches and the car hanging up makes no sense. :iono: Its not like snow is hard enough to hold the car up and the tires won't touch the ground. Now if the snow turned to ice then thats different. But where are you taking your car that will have ice build that high? I had a honda accord for a winter beater that was only 4-5 inches clearance and did fine with winter tires. The snow will get pushed out of the way or compressed as the car travels over it.
Invenstment in winter tires is definitly a smart one.

To each his own. But I have a winter beater Honda Accord and I'm selling it. Life's too short not to drive the 1! And when it's usefull life expires (like my Honday's after 10 years), there'll be another 'one' waiting at the dealer.

But I do appreciate that some folks would prefer to garage a nice car for the winter - that's good practice - just don't do it because of ground clearance.

I'm an idiot because I spent $1,200 on winter rims and tires for my One and it is sitting in my soon to be newly constructed homes garage. I ended up driving the company Xterra around for 4 days. I think I will take the One out tomorrow. Glad to hear that the car does well in the snow with winter tires on! After all it is just a car and it should be driven and besides the Xterra doesn't have heated seats to keep my butt warm!

Car looks great with your winter wheels. And no there is no recalibration for the speedo, because your overall diameter will be the same with the smaller wheels.
