Dealer raised price of car

On Monday, I set up an appointment for this coming Saturday to go look at a 135i that's about 2 hours away. I checked the dealer's site today to make sure the car was still available so I could still plan on driving down there. I found the car on their site and noticed the price increased by $3,000! I've never seen this done before. Has anyone else? Does this help the dealer out? I emailed the dealership and told them I was no longer interested in the vehicle.

Just keep an eye on it. When the price drops, you can then call the dealer back.

Strange. I looked up my cars value just recently, and the value of it went up by $1,000.

I wonder if it's done automatically.
Like when you are searching for flights and hotel.
I heard you're suppose to delete the cookies and search history before you search it again. Otherwise the price increases automatically.

Garage List
Did you talk to a sales associate about the price? If it was a technical glitch then he/she could likely work with you. Even if it isn't you know that their website doesn't dictate final pricing? The sales associate dropped the price of my car over $6K (Canadian $ mind you) before I even started to negotiate (yielding further savings). Even if it was a shady dealing in response to your appointment (or an initial mistake on their part when pricing was first posted) it'd be good to know which.

Yea, I emailed the person I had been in contact with and asked him if they raised the price and he said yes. So, it wasn't a glitch.

LOL dealers. Remember, they have to sell cars. You don't have to buy one.

The advertised price is meaningless. Check out the car, and offer what you're willing to pay. KNOW what you're willing to pay, and stick to it. They're number is not relevant.

I understand that but they shouldn't list it at one price, set up an appointment, and then raise it before I get there.

This. The advertised price means nothing. Pay what the car is worth to you. If they take it fine, if not move on.

I've seen this before. Apparently there is an algorithm used by the dealers that automatically raises prices on used cars.

Funny, us buyers have an algorithm that automatically reduces the offer on used cars.

I found my RX8 online at a dealer I had previously bought two cars from and I knew the sales rep who drove it as his demo car. I called them up and said I'd buy it but when I got there the price had gone up $1000. Needless to say I was pissed and I pointed out the fact that I had the Cars.com ad printed out and they're bait and switching. They finally relented since I was a "good" customer.

Trust no one and walk away when they do this.
