There's absolutely a difference in the sound, especially when you nail it and the exhaust butterfly in the muffler opens up. I'm running catless pipes and the stock exhaust from there back, and I really like the way it sounds. I like that the car is still very close to the stock noise levels inside while cruising on the highway and around town, but then has a very growl when it's at WOT.
From what I've seen so far, the power gains from changing the rest of the exhaust system are minimal, so mine will probably stay just like it is. |

I am running the Riss Racing Catless DPs along with the Riss Racing Cat Back Exhaust. The car is an absolute beast with this setup. I don't have comparison with just DPs as they were all installed together but the car is mean to say the least. We'll do a video later on to give you an idea.

Jeremy - what brand downpipes did you go with? Any issues when you bring it in for service or having no cats present any issues? Sounds like an interesting option (that would save quite a bit of money but provide more mean sound without drone I would assume). Thanks!

I've got Ultimate Racing pipes, but I doubt there's really much difference in sound or performance from manufacturer to manufacturer, only build quality, and that's a subject for another thread. Putting catless DPs on the car can absolutely void the warranty if you have something turbo related and they know about them. If you're running the O2 simulators required to prevent a constant SES light, there's also the risk of them finding them and denying claims because you've tampered with the ECU wiring, so like any other mod that's worth a significant power gain, they're certainly not without risk no matter what some of the venders will tell you. As far as the sound goes, I think it's perfect, but there are people out there who like it a little louder under normal conditions, and if that's what you're after it might make more sense to go with an aftermarket exhaust, and maybe mid-pipes which replace the secondary cats instead of the primarys. |
