'vert AND performance exhaust?

Posted this elsewhere, but got no response.

Would it be a mistake to get a performance exhaust on a ragtop?

How much does the sound bleed in when the top is up (or down with windows up) while cruising down the highway?
Yeah - I know - the sound is what it's all about. But as much as I enjoy spirited driving, I like to listen to my iPod too.

I'm concerned mostly about the exhaust interfering with my tunes while I'm trying to make some miles at a fairly constant cruise of 50 to 75 mph.

Thinking of doing the same thing on my 'vert. I am impressed with how quiet the car is with the roof up it is much more refined than my 987 Boxster S. So my guess is the performance exhaust shouldn't be that obtrusive...

I don't have a vert but the perf exhaust is definitely something you feel and hear from the seat. and then with the windows cracked, you can really hear it. granted, with the HiFi, you can easily overpower the noise with your tunes.

perhaps this will help put it in perspective for you knowing how the sound of the vert compares to the coupe as is (assuming you've testdriven a coupe).

I don't have a performance exhaust yet, but the stock exhaust is too quite for me with the top up or down.

Looks like having a Performance Exhaust on a 'vert is pretty unique!

Hasn't anyone on this forum tried this?

I've sold many to vert owners.. hope they chime in! It sounds great on the coupe with the windows closed, and it will sound awesome with the vert down! There is very little drone in the low RPM range. Visit my youtube page to check out the vids on the stock vs performance exhaust sound

Thanks - actually it was your youtube video that sold me on the idea!

I'd just like someone with a vert and the exhaust to confirm that the bleed won't overly mess with my music during a highway cruise!

I'll see which owners with a vert have bought them tomorrow, hopefully I can remember by name

BTW.. who needs stereo music when you hear exhaust music?

I have been considering installing performance exhaust. How is the BMW Performance exhaust? How does the sound differ from the factory exhaust?

You actually hear the exhaust starting around 2500RPM...accelerating and building the revs slowly in 1st to about 5k sounds very exotic...the sound is indescribable. Its louder during cold idle and settles off once warm. You do not hear it while putting around the city unless you build up the revs but not at all ever overpowering.

There is also no drone cruising at highway speeds which is a big positive in my book. The sound is intoxicating!

I have the performance exhaust on my convertible and it is awesome. There is no drone at all when you are cruising around. Buy it and you will not regret the decision.
