Another surprise from my dealer

Was told yesterday that there will be a $550 charge for metallic paint on my order (black). This goes for VO but not white.

Never saw/heard anything about this prior to last night. Certainly not discussed when I placed my order.

Doen't seem right with only 3 choices to extort a few extra $s from most of us. I'm sorry if this offends anyone but white cars look like appliances on wheels.

It's the same metallic upcharge for all 1 and 3 series in the USA. Those metallic flakes are platinum, mined by union oompa-loompas.

this is on every BMW, and known as soon as prices where communicated.

More or less an any car of any brand you need to pay for metallic paint.

Jet Black = no charge since it's non-metallic
Black Saphire Metallic = additional charge for metallic paint

Not so sure I'd say it's that way across the board, for BMWs and some of the other German manufacturers yes, but definitely not for all brands.

I did a bit of search around here and did see several mentions of $550 for metallic paint. However, the sales manager at my dealer definately did not mention it when I sat in his office and did the numbers.

Legit I understand but not communication. Hey, he's human, probably just forgot.

I would guess because half the people want this car but can't afford it. The others because the are consumers and want what they want right now.
