Battery ran down

So this morning, I was walking out of the house through the garage and saw that my passenger side window was down. Since I was walking by that side of the car, I got in on the passenger side, slid the key into the ignition, and pulled the window-up button in the passenger side door to raise the window... I pulled the key out of the ignition and exited the car through the same door I entered through: the passenger side door.

Now, when I got home 3 hours later, I noted that the tail lights were brightly lit and the front lights were on... I said to myself, WTF? I presumed that exiting the passenger side door was insufficient to turn out the lights which had been triggered by the key in the ignition... Since I never noticed this before, I tried the same maneuver on the driver's side.. Got in, key in ignition, played with the driver side window switch, took the key out of the ignition, and exited the driver side door... And, lo and behold, the lights turned out with the closing of the door. WTF?

As a result, my battery was barely able to turn the engine over... I promptly slapped my trickle charger on it, and hopefully, the battery will be no worse for wear... . But is there any way for me to program the lights-passenger door connection so that this doesnt happen again? When I exit the car, on EITHER SIDE, I want the lights to go out.....

Thanks...

I've noticed the same thing on mine, but it had only sat a few minutes. I thought there was a power saver function which killed the lights if left for x number of minutes...

There likely is a way to code via CAS and NCS Expert but I haven't seen a solution specific to this problem. May also be possible via Tool 32.

What may be easier is coding your car to allow the fob to roll the windows up via the lock button

What is that coding called? I don't see it in the menu of the app.

No idea about the app, I use BMW Tools 2.12 with a laptop to do all my coding.
