that ugly ass cup holder. plastidipped!

ever since my 135is days, i have found the OEM 'extra' cupholder to be the most vile piece of the interior. It is a total eyesore and i hate it. The 1M has the same silly cupholder as any of the other 1ers. Unfortunately i use that cupholder quite often when i pick up a cup of coffee or a bottle of water somewhere when i'm out---and i don't want to use the one under the armrest as i like having the armrest down.

i've been wanting to try plastidip for a loooong time and finally i figured out the perfect use; to make that horrible cupholder matte black so it is less visible. Took me about 5 minutes and it worked!! Matte black now and hardly visible. I'm not sure if anyone else has done this here but i HIGHLY recommend doing it if you hate the 'shiny' cupholder like i do.

(iphone pics in a dark garage....but you get the idea!)

BEFORE (dark garage pic, just to show how stupidly visible the cupholder is)

AFTER (ahhh, muuuuuch better)

Nice! Plastidip really is awesome for a lot of the small odd jobs and can really make a huge visual improvement.

I like it!

Getting rid of it would've been better.

The pictures truly do it justice. I can't see anything! But I guess that's the point.

Why would BMW try to draw any more attention than needed to an ugly cup holder by adding shiny to it anyways lol

Alas, I never took mine out of the bubble wrap it came in to even know it was shiny.

Bet it'd look better in VO.

My solution to avoid this ugly tack on cupholder was: Delete the armrest altogether and get a taller shift knob. Now I put my drinks in the rear most cupholder and no longer have to worry about bumping them with my elbow when shifting.

TRUE. that would be one solution! is there such a thing as an 'extension' for the shifter to make it longer? i think i would do that as long as it didn't look ridiculous.

Brilliant! I'll be doing this over the weekend. I HATE the "cupholders" in the E8x. Aesthetically, functionally, spiritually. Whatever. They're awful.

Sure... Or maybe get a 60's/70's-style Afro to cover things up.
