Please! Need help with Sirius!

Hey, guys/gals- so I called Sirius just before and gave the cust. service rep. my ESN #. Upon furnishing the number, the person asked me if it was a BMW, and of course, I said yes. Then, she asked me if it was a 2005 5/7 series, and, of course, I said no. She then told me to contact my dealership first before activating my sat. radio.

Has anyone else come across this? I told the rep to just activate it, but she told me it might be a good idea to just consult with my dealership first...

HELP! (sorry for the yelling...)

Well, I took delivery of my car two weeks ago. 06 325i. I ordered it with sirius, but the day before I took delivery, BMW changed the part that enables sirius. I can only assume it was some sort of upgrade. Maybe the cust. service rep was alluding to the fact that the sirius unit changed??

anyway, I am going tomorrow to get my unit installed...i've been busy with work and finally got the chance to get it done.

I don't see any reason for consulting the dealership unless of course for warranty issues or to verify part number/MY application.

You should try again with another customer rep at Sirius. I read another Sirius post here that seem to indicate differing knowledge of Sirius customer reps wrt BMW Sirius units and the included 1 year service. If that doesn't work, ask to speak with a supervisor.

I just picked up my car last night. When I called to activate the Sirius, the rep said I was entitled to 3 months free. (After I told her it was a new BMW) I told her it was a year and then she said, "oh wait, I'm reading 6 months now." Once again I told her it was a year and she found something else that said 9 months. Finally I asked for her supervisor and everything worked out fine. I think they're trained to try and rip you off... or just terribly misinformed.

you might have a point there...when I activated mine, I was given the impression that I had to upgrade/buy/lock in additional service time to activate. I paid for the extra 2 years at about $150

Technically it is 9 months free from maybe bmw, then 3 months free from sirus, or something to that affect. They told me it is split up 9/3.

I did not have to go back to the dealer. All we did was call Sirius while the car was in motion and gave them all the infomation (ESN# etc). The sirius guy activated it for me - Free for 1 yr and also set up an internet accout for me so you can listen to Sirius radio free online.I did not pay anything at that time. Don't let them try to rip you off.

Why did BMW go with SIRIUS? How come there is no other options? I had to tell the service rep 3 times that I did not want to pay for the next two years, and then had to call back an hour later to activate the system since they did not do it the first time. Bottom line - very bad exprience, let's see how the service is....

Zenit77: Yeah I wasn't too thrilled about it, for the $500 plus paid for the factory option, I'd expect to enjoy the service/unit for a good 1 year before being bugged for more money.

It seems BMW has re-signed their exclusive agreement and Audi has gone Sirius exclusive as well together with MB & Chrysler. At $595 list, BMW's Sat radio option is the most expensive in the market, as well. Sirius must have given them a lot of incentives to do so...the very least they should've provided us with feature-rich sirius units. The current one is really very basic in its features and very laggy as well.

Should've spent the money on Comfort Access

I've never had issues with their service,
I upgraded to lifetime sub the day I activated and they helped manage my other subscription to minimize my costs and even found that they'd overcharged me for something or another and sent me a credit.

Sat radio is a new tech and it's going to take time for them to catch up to the plug and play units with factory stuff.
