Sport Auto 1M Review: Beats M3 at Hockenheim! - "All You Need In A Sports Car"
BIMMERPOST NEWS Sport Auto 1M Review: Beats M3 at Hockenheim! "All You Need In A Sports Car" The recent round of reviews had us euphoric about the 1-series M Coupe already, and it's getting even better. The most renowned German sports car magazine Sport Auto has published their review. The biggest news first - the 1M lapped the Hockenheim in 1:14.1. To add some perspective, the fastest time Sport Auto got for the M3 was 1:14.2 in an E92 M3 ZCP DCT. For more perspective, we've added some more Hockenheim times from Sport Auto below.
Sport Auto clocked 4.7 seconds for 0-62mph and 17.2 seconds for 0-124mph. But it's not only the measurable performance that impressed the reviewers, it's also the fun. Purely a subjective matter, but the 1M got 10 out of 10 points for driving pleasure. Sport Auto confirms the 1M being tailhappy when driven at the limit with DSC off, but - unlike the AMS review - they don't consider this a bad thing. To the contrary, it "reminds them of the old BMW times. It's good to know that not all cars are tuned in to understeer for safety reasons." It appears that BMW hit a home run with the 1M, or as Sport Auto puts it: "The 1M is all you need in a sports car." Make sure to get a copy of the latest Sport Auto if you have a chance. |

It seemed people did not want to believe the testimonials, and needed to hear it from official reviews. I'm glad the reviews are confirming what we experienced.

Awesome!!!!!!!! And Hockenheim is very demanding and taxing on brakes and middle gearing. You spend most of your time between 2-4 gear with 5th on the Parabolika.

Very good lap time. It has a huge advantage over the 135i. I think what is clear is that the 1M, M3 and TT-RS are all in the same ballpark. Only 2 fractions of a second between all 3 of them. I think what lets the RS5 down is weight!

Awesome lap time. How does the M3 DCT compare to a manual?
Nevermind, just saw the posted times.

It's a simple equation. Lighter, more torque, same suspension, diff, etc. There's no reason it shouldn't be faster then the m3 on some tracks. Sure the DCT shifts faster but with the right driver the 1m should be right with its big brother.
