Turning in car, looking for options
So might be turning in my 2009 128i this week and am looking into what other options there are to get into. Trying to get into something a little more sporty, my options that I've looked at are around the $30K range.
My options are either keep my 128, look into a 2010 135 in my price range, or something that has caught my eye recently had been the MINI JCW, either the hardtop or maybe even the new coupe. To be honest, the coupe has really caught my eye, turbocharged 4-banger, a sleek look, and I kinda like only 2 seats do I don't have to drag around all my friends.. Any input is appreciated guys. Thanks for your help! |

Traded in my 2011 MCS with JCW tune for my 2012 128. Loved the Mini but the ride will beat the fillings out of your teeth. Also go sit in a Coupe, IMHO very poor visibility looking out the rear. No sunroof avaliable on the MC Coupe if you care. If you are still interested in a Mini check out www.northamericanmotoring.com the absolete best Mini board. Me, I'd keep the 128.

Thanks Dackel! And Thanks for the opinions guys, right now just saw the Mini Coupe at the dealership and the one I was looking at was pretty neat. I like the 2 seat option to not have to drag people around, but as we drove in a cpo'd z4 has caught my eye... Lol still would love to see if there's a 135 available, if there is in my price range that would be my choice. Appreciate the input fellas

Pretty much a 2 seater. There are seats in the back, helps keep insurance down, but that's probably all they're good for. Reviews on this/these car/s has been excellent all around. It's being said to be a drivers car. Power is not over the top, and many testers say the chassis can handle more. There looks to be a turbo on the way. The engine is a boxer designed and made by Subaru. Chassis and tuning by Toyota. I call it a "Subyota". The cars look very similar. The Toyota version is a Scion FR-S, and the Subaru is the BRZ, call it the Subaru "Breeze". FR-S? Fresh? The BRZ will offer extra options compared to the FR-S. Fully loaded the BRZ is under $29K. From Edmunds on the BRZ options and models: The 2013 Subaru BRZ is a four-seat compact coupe available in two trims. The Premium model comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, summer tires, a limited-slip rear differential, automatic bi-xenon headlights, LED running lights, keyless entry, cruise control, air-conditioning, full power accessories, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat and a fold-down rear seatback. Electronic features include a touchscreen interface, a navigation system, voice controls, real-time traffic, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, hands-free text messaging, and an eight-speaker sound system with a CD player, HD radio, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack and an iPod/USB audio interface. The BRZ Limited trim adds foglamps, a rear spoiler, keyless ignition/entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, faux-suede and leather upholstery, and an All-Weather package that includes heated front seats and heated mirrors. For the FR-S: The 2013 Scion FR-S comes in a single trim level. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, full power accessories, a height-adjustable driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, Bluetooth (with streaming audio) and a Pioneer eight-speaker sound system with a CD player, HD radio, RCA output jacks, an auxiliary audio jack and USB/iPod integration. In keeping with Scion's marketing philosophy, in lieu of factory options there are a number of dealer-installed accessories that include foglights, a premium audio system and various suspension and engine performance parts. Looks like the BRZ will offer more items bringing a GT flavor to the twins. |

I was thinking about getting rid of the 135 for the BRZ. Besides the 135 we own 2 subarus, and these have been great problem free cars.
Once I found the power output of the BRZ, I realized I would need to wait until the BRZ STI comes out. I think I would hold the 128, unless you find something that really meets your needs.

370s are loads of fun, a bit more upscale would be a G37s coupe, those things can move but are going to run a few K more than the 370. I'd look far and wide for a cpo 135 in the price range, they can absolutely be had with good mileage for around 30k. Good luck in your search, there are tons of great cars in that general price area, especially if you are willing to go used.

There are cars that do not accelerate like crazy but have very nice road holding performance. If budget limited, they are nice. That means, Mini, the new BRz or a GTI. For those with more to spend, there is the 135i, and with even larger budgets there are Corvettes, Caymens, M3, TT RS and so on.

Avoid the S and JCW Minis. The torque steer is an absolute nightmare. The cars were ok if ridiculously loud in the first gen when supercharged instead of turbo'd.

Still love and miss my old MINI, except for the interior design.
