HPFP failures?
So, fellow New Englanders, I'm curious. On a more local level, I was wondering how many have had hpfps go bad on them.
I'm about to do a 1000 miles round trip and all this hpfp talk has me worried. Three cheers for the SOS button! |

I am concerned about mine at the moment as well but am afraid of the new software update they "must" do before replacing the HPFP because my car right now feels like it should and everyone is reporting weird lag and strange idle. Maybe if it clearly gives up they can just replace it without the software?

20,500 completely babied miles and original HPFP.
Btw, I lied about the babied miles. I generally beat the snot out of my car at lots of driving events over the past couple years. |

36K on my original HPFP. Ive done 2500 miles roadtrips and I just never really worry about it.
Last night I drove from LI to Upstate NY in the dead of night. I was doing between 80 and 110 for several hours straight. The car performaced like a champ. I even got 24.5 MPG Seriously, people need to stop worrying about this part. Just go about your life and if it fails, it fails. This whole, im afraid to drive my car for more than 30ft cause my pump will fail mentality is rediculous IMO. |

I'm not saying that people's concern isn't well founded. I'm simply saying if you can't constantly live in a state of fear.

I'd say that at least 95% of the people who walk into a BMW showroom have no idea what a high pressure fuel pump is.. never mind the failure rates. If we were talking about a Lotus showroom, and there were similar issues, I'd say a lot more would know (most Lotus cars are sold to gearheads anyway)
Your typical BMW driver doesn't care that there is no dipstick or LSD... by a gargantuan margin to the likes of us. |
