Actually, at the time of the last report, the Don Juan has about 1,549 nautical miles or 1,782 miles (according to Google Earth) to go before pulling into Halifax ... about 3.5 day's sailing, if she maintains her reported top average speed of 18.4 knots (21 mph). So I have to say she's looking good indeed ... ... I hope my guesstimates holds ...

Curious: does anyone know if the cars are driven onto the boat and just parked uncovered, or are they loaded into shipping containers and stacked?

Lurking mostly...getting information regarding my lease figures (which my CA seems to have screwed up - yes, they'll be rectified), researching radar detectors (have to replace my aging Escort 7500), getting final thoughts on what width spacers to get for my rear wheel offsets (wow! what a difference a few mm's make), researching blacklines (haven't yet decided), and getting my current vehicle ready for private sale. Oh...and I was working too.

I hope so too! Your estimates would indicate a "near" on-schedule arrival!

These ships are specifically designed to carry cars or wheeled vehicles.
Hence The Ro Ro designation. Roll on Roll off. They are driven on the various decks in order and secured to the deck. All the cargo vehicles are inside and not in shipping containers. The Don Juan has thirteen decks I believe and three of them are elevator decks for trucks or taller vehicles.. You can go to the WW website (Google Wallenius) and see the specs on the vessel..

Just picture a multi-storey parking garage with ramps and everything and you wouldn't be far off ... there was a pdf writeup a few posts back, it has more detailed information

I see you are considering spacers...would spacers void new car warranty...if let's say you have suspension problems? I know that if you were to look up Porsche's (long) list of options, they have spacers as a $800 factory option (boxster, cayman and 911), so i guess they must be within an acceptable range of safety...

Nothing I've seen on this board or any other indicates the warranty would be void under normal circumstances, but suspension problems....hmmm....even though it's unlikely the spacers would be a problem, who knows? All I know is I've seen some pics of e90's with 10-12mm spacers installed, and it's unbelievable how much better the car looks...much sportier and beefier. It's a definite mod for me, and for about $100 it's a no brainer.

Thought I'd estimate the path of the DJ, and superimpose it onto a Google Earth map... Again, approximate...

2006-Feb-21 12:00

85 Miles travelled
Avg Speed 14.2 knots
Winds: 160@48 knots

hey my SA jsut emailed me today telling me the ETA to the port is 3/1, same as the WW site schedule, then he said just a couple days from port to dealers!
do you guys know if the SAs check a different tracking site, or are we all looking at the same info here?

Shoot...you are correct:

ETA Charleston is now 03/01 or +2 days (related to the 2 days delay in Southampton?)

From our last guesstimates, the Don Juan is making steady pace towards Halifax, anticpating perhaps 1 day delay. Although latest weather satellite pictures (courtesty of Fletcher) seem to indicate the Don Juan is experiencing rough weather, as we speak. Not sure how'll that play on her arrival schedule.

Latest update...

2006-Feb-22 00:00
N46°36' W034°30'
NM Travelled: 98
Avg Speed: 16.3 knots
Winds: 300@25 knots
Pressure: 1020.2 millibars

I tried putting the above information in the map, but the text appears to be too small to read after I resized it to fit properly here. I'll make the text bigger next time...

Also, notice how the DJ had to turn south to properly navigate the winds and 12-15' seas that were hitting her from the south as she navigated that tropical wave. She looks to be clear now, and she should start turning more west soon.

Fletch! Great detailed weather report/pics...I wonder if the southward diversionary track would add +1 day to scheduled arrival...

Looking good Mr. Fletcher...hope there won't be further delays.

Have you ever consider being a meteorologist/storm tracker come hurricane season 2006 ... I hear its gonna be a busy one, NOAA could sure use your help ... ... the last few graphics look like hurricane tracking maps that were all too familiar in 2005
