Is that what you use for the engine? Even for the initial peroid? coz I will not be following the scheudle and changing oil every 5000km.

I want to change my oil as I am spending time on the track. BMW tell me this is the oil to use.

Does everyone here in Australia with 135i use the BMW recommanded oil or is anyone using other performance turbo oil?

I'm only going with the recommended oil because I've read good things about it. The fact BMW use it is a massive plus to me too. I assume BMW changes oils to suit local climates?

I am also looking around but want to see if any even better engine oil specifically for turbo engines. Unlike my previous Japanese turbo cars which I am very confident to go for the best racing quality turbo oils from Japan, I am not quite sure if our engines get any unique requirement on the oil...

Tried other BMW yet?

Barden me but I also found the same in Mobil

http://www.mobil.com/Australia-Engli...il_1_0W-40.asp

Decision decision....

I will buy in bulk when I see them on sale, either Castrol or Mobil (Mobil is significantly more expensive - $90 per 5L).

That's interesting as BMW said LL01 was 5w30 and your castrol link states LL01 is 0w40..
This is the 5w30 link http://www.castrol.com/castrol/produ...tentId=7013361

Yeah I know and 0W40 listed as BMW LL01 and Mobile 0W40 also listed as compatible with BMW LL01....

Go figure.

Tell you what. Melbourne is so hot that 0W40 is probably better than 5W30.

My understand is LL01 is the quality standard code name by BMW only which is based on the shear stress and protection level of the oil capable, so it is doing nothing to the oil temp and viscosity requirement which is more depends on different location.

Interesting, that makes sense. My service guy told me 5w30, I'm going to call tomorrow.

Anyone know what BMW charges for an oil change?

BMW Long life is Castrol 5w30

We get the tanker to fill up our mass storage oil tank, but i am sure someone in NSW has it.

Thanks Andrew. Do you recommend this for cars doing track work?

Might need to discuss camber plates too..

I checked with my local store and they said they didn't stock the oil listed in the previous threads. I'm calling service today to get some clarification on what oil I can use.

Col Crawfords say it's got to be 5w30 AND LL01; they don't know why Castrol say LL01 is 0w40. Anyway they are going to do the change for $60 labour + filter ($31.50) and oil ($22 per litre). I'm feeling a little sheepish about my very scrubbed tyres, which is why I was going to do it myself!!

If it is LL01 - so LL01 it is... if there is no combination for LL01 and 5W30. I will email castrol and ask why... I am sure the oil is not BMW exclusive.
