Sorry to hear that and hopefully you can get resolution ASAP. Are these issues only with trunks or does anyone know if they have also been happening to hoods too?

I know of two people w/ hoods who has the "smudge". One m3 hood and one vented hood. Once you see it, its forever the first thing you look at.

Is this "fogging"/"smudging" an issue if you planned on painting the CF hood anyway? Does it affect the integrity of the hood itself? If this is a "stupid question", please forgive...

To be fair, I didnt have ANY smudge/fogging on my hood and my hood was painted AW. I have thoroughly inspect my hood a few hundred times. Secondly, I was told by someone else that their hood was painted and it still shows up after word. Looks like DTM promised that their hoods and trunks will be perfect (perhaps they fixed the clear coat issue).

Hoods, trunks, diffusers.

This is the reason I started this thread:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=474384

It's a pretty good read. And DTMrack.com stepped up at the end to ensure everyone would be taken care of. Not sure how everything's been working out though.

this worries me, my trunk is still in the box waiting to get fitted so i can get it painted. anyone else having leaking issues?

where exactly are you getting the blotches at? i plan on keeping some of the CF exposed and i'm worried that after i get it painted the blotches will show up and i will be assed out of the money i spent on painted it

Also, I noticed mine doesn't seal by the bottom of the window and while washing the car it will leak. I went inside and it is not mating with the rubber seal. I might just shim this up to fix that problem.

It just looks ugly now with these blotch white areas everywhere. I can even see them in other pics people have posted, surprised more people havent noticed.

Had a "professional" bodyshop paint and install the trunk. Kind of dark when I picked it up (as you can tell), but it looks like they did a super job in matching up the Le Mans blue paint.

They said they had a heck of a time getting all of the trim back together, and when I picked it up this evening they still had not figured out how to hook up the emergency locking handle and its cable, so the trunk lining is just snug enough to not fall off until I can figure out if I want to take it back for them to dork with, or handle it on my own.

Which is one of the reasons I'm posting here.

If there's anyone here about to swap out the drunk using this DIY could you take a pic of the cable for the emergency locking handle on the stock trunk to see where it attaches to on the trunk, or is it just hanging kind of loose.

And for those that already did the mod can you remember where you attached the cable to make it snug on the trunk, inside the lining? If you can post a pic it would be appreciated, as this kind of stuff is really not up my alley.

As the OP mentioned apparently there is a lot of "tweaking" that needs to be done to get the trim to fit properly.

They tried to insert one of the shocks, but were afraid to finish it when they heard some minor flexing noises in the trunk.

So currently I'm also shockless. The trunk does go way back, almost against the rear glass before it stops. And when closing it you have to give it a firm slam to seat it.

I checked with a company (can't remember their name off hand, but they are located in Japan.....TKlein maybe?) if they made special shocks for CF trunks, but they responded not at this time.

It's definitely livable as it is, you just have to be vigilant when opening and closing the trunk.

I'll definitely post better pics later on when it warms up and I've had a chance to tidy up the remaining bits that are still not done.

I am going to install my iCarbon trunk soon and want to ask a question . What should i do with struts? Install them both or one or no struts at all? How is it with both ? Do they really catapult the trunk to the point where it can break or destroy the mounting points?

Thanks for your reply. If you have no issues with one shock, i guess thats the way to go untill smaller shocks become available.

What is the weight savings with the carbon trunk lid vs. the stock steel?

Or do we not care about that?

Here we go:
OEM E82 trunk=33 lbs
iCarbon single sided=13 lbs
iCarbon double sided=9.7 lbs

OEM Hood=44 lbs
iCarbon s. s.= 21 lbs
iCarbon d. s. = 16 lbs

Anyone who tracks the car should care about weight savings

Thanks. Sounds like there's about 50 lbs to be saved between the trunk and the hood, which is not insignificant. How many $\lb though? Hmm...

Its not just a weight savings. iCarbon hood has open vents(it comes with closed vents but can be easily opened with the proper cutting tools) which allow the hot air that builds up in the engine bay to escape. Also iCarbon pieces look great. Its an eye candy to look at.

i had been meaning to post this idea....probably better on a stock trunk w/ performance spoiler, but it could work here too

-relocate the 3rd brakelight to inside the car at the top of the windshield (e46 style)
-would probably just buy the e46 setup...just no idea what the install would take
-fill/mold the hole from the brakelight
-relocate the roundel to the center of teh trunk (vertical center, between top of trunk and top of license plate area)

something like this....ms paint ftw (no pshop on work computer)

has anyone looked in to this or know somebody who's done it??
