Conti DW vs PSS Tread Life?
Hey guys,
I need to make a decision today on a new set of tires. From all the reviews I've read I have narrowed it down to the DW and the PSS. The difference in performance is not a factor in my decision. What am I most concerned about? Tread life. Have you owned either? How long did they last? Thanks for your input!

I had the DW's on my 2011, and have the PSS on my 2013. Had about 12,000 miles on the DW's when I got the 2013. They still had plenty of tread left- looked about half worn down. Have about 5000 miles on the PSS now, and they look barely worn at all. The PSS, as you probably know from your research, do have a better tread wear rating than the DW, and I expect they will last longer. Both are great tires, and I don't think the price difference is significant enough to get the lower priced DW considering the PSS tread wear should be better.

However, biased strictly on the UTQG tread rating....the DW "should" last longer. DW-340 PSS-300 I do know that two companies can't really be compared based on the UTQG ratings. This is why I started the thread. |

On my STI, I had 275/35 PSS all the way around and used 1.5/32" in 16k miles before I sold the car. That was a ton of highway and low-load driving. I didn't do any autox or overly aggressive driving. This was the main reason I went with them on my 135i and haven't had them on long enough to get a decent life expectancy out of the current set yet.
Extrapolate that out and it looks like 70k+ miles down to the wearbars if you arent too hard on them. I liked them a lot on my STI and i hope that i like them as much on my 1er

That is on a AWD car though. On the rears I currently have the DWS and have used about 4/32's in 8k. My car is making 488 torque and the grip with them is still really great even though they have a rating for UTQG 540! Ideally I want 15k out of the rears. |
