I would love to take european delivery, but I don't see a BMW that catches my attention anymore! . We'll see where life takes me in a few years. I'm young and have a lot left in me. Hopefully BMW will come up with something eye catching!

Good posts! So many memories from living in Germany. It is where I found my love for BMW!!! Many km cruising on the Autobahn 160+kph.

Interesting that the average is no more than 160kph which of course is 100moh. Around my area here I routinely drive over 90mph on the interstate.
So not that much difference to Germany after all. |

Ohh I beg to differ. The main difference is over here were are DRIVERS. We look in the rear view mirror and change our speed for ever changing road conditions. The Autobahn... Over here trucks have a speed limit of 80 kph. Most people who have just stated to drive or are afraid to drive fast - drive at 130 kph. Because when you drive faster than 130 kph there is the possibility that your insurance company might not pay in the event of an accident! Yes, most people drive in the 160 to 180 kph range. But then you have maybe 10% of the drivers who drive faster, say around 240 kph. And then you have some guys who drive more than 240 kph(say 270 to 310 kph). Now mix in ever changing road conditions and construction zones(w/60 to 80 kph zones) and speed limits in built up areas or speed limits at night for people who have homes near the Autobahn and you get a pretty good idea of what it is like to drive over here. Other than the fuel costing $9 per gallon and all the silly taxes the Germans have. Like a liter of engine oil costing $40!

I drive A9 and A6 a lot. And believe me I've only seen one accident in the year I've been here. Germans take driving very seriously and with much respect. I typically cruise at 100 mph from Nuremberg to Munich. When I first got here I refused to go over 130kph. I'm making my first trip to the Nurbergring in the spring. That's gonna be a blast!

Last time we were in Germany (2011) there was so much road construction and trucks on the road it was difficult to go very fast on the A5 especially between Frankfurt and Heidelberg.

It would be quite nice if there were standards for acquiring a drivers license in the US. Car control, knowing how to operate the control surfaces, changing a tire, checking the oil, etc.

It would cut the number of drivers in half. Which would reduce oil company profits and spike fuel costs. Pretty much the reason the US is decades behind some European countries. Not bashing the USA but that's how it is.

I miss driving in Germany. Canadians drive like animals. No common sense, no courtesy and a complete disregard for anyone or anything around them.
I have one word for people in the GTA, "Reißverschlussverfahren" I love my new home and Canadians really are the nicest people in the world... until they get behind the wheel of a vehicle. |

I move to South Carolina on 05 and thought it was a state law that you had to drive with 3 normal tires & a donut, and that signal lights were a dealer option. 2nd worst drivers in the country.

I work for a German company and find myself in Germany - often. So I do recognize the difference.
My commnent was only referrin to the speed itself and not to the quality of drivers. There is no question that in the US we have idiot drivers. |

Come on it's not easy driving on the interstate while eating your burger and fries while texting your BFF.

I drove the Nordschleife several years ago in a Mercedes 190 Kompressor. It was AMAZING. They put a chicane on the straight but I managed to hit 220kph before the car felt unsteady.

1. The crumple zones would absorb some of the impact thus absorbing some of your speed. 2. The vehicle you hit would thus instantly speed up which would absorb some of your speed as well. 3. Then likely the car you hit will not stay in a straight path and will be shoved off to one side or the other which would also not spill off all the difference in your speed. There are other factors as well, brake conditions of you, acceleration of the other car, road conditions, up hill vs down hill, wind speed. speed of light (just kidding). So with that said upon impact you will likely spin off into another direction until you coast to a stop or impact something really immovable like a real wall or barrier. ok ok ok so now that the physics lesson is over, let me say this. Life would severly suck for you if you were not dead so please dont try it.
