The value of my e30 M3 tanked when the e36 M3 came out. With 1Ms in even fewer numbers, I doubt that will happen.
oh man that would have been a helluva time to buy an E30!!

sure would. they go for about 45K these days. 30K is the least ive seen one go for lately. ughhhh i always wanted e30 m3 now i fear it may be un attainable unless i hit lotto. gonna have to settle on converting my 135 to a 1M once funding permits.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the M2 in person, hopefully at the NYIAS. I can't see this being my next car though, I think I'd rather replace my ST with a Focus RS.

I'm sure M2 owners will love their cars, I just don't think I'll enjoy it as much as I enjoy my 1M. It's hard to put into words, and when I say it like that it sounds so smug lol.

I know what you mean.

I've had many sports cars in the past but my excitement over the 1M after 1.5yrs seems to keep rising every time I drive it.

Colorwise, I hoped for a better "special" color. I did expect a limited range of colors given how the 1M only had a limited range of colors. I was hoping for more interior options but then again the 1M only had that specific interior.

I don't think we should expect this M2 to compare to the supposed (I've never driven a 1m) rawness and purity of the 1M. Look at it, EPS, screens everywhere, and sound pumped through speakers...totally not what I'd imagine in a "pure" driver's car. The standard stuff may also entail electric seats and possibly even heated. At least, the automatic transmission offered is a DCT.

Despite all I've said, I'm sure the M2 will be an awesome car and a special one at that. Will it be as special at it's expected to be (compared to 1M), I doubt it. Will it be objectively better than the 1M? It better damned be!

My 1M has electric and heated seats. Couldn't see the point of a stripper unless you are using it for track. Mines now pumping out 410HP which offsets the minor weight issue

Assuming reviews confirm an intrinsic power oversteer handling: +1

Many reasons really: based on the M2 pics so far the RS looks slightly more iconic, 5 doors make it truely DD-able and versatile, in EU it comes with (~BMW/Recaro) performance seats option, is available in beautiful shades of blue.

for contrast in the bumpers check out this link:

i LOVE that bumper but they opted to make the M2 look like it had buck teeth instead.

Looks:
Rear lights and rear reflector (areas) are disproportionally large. Not a fan.

Side profile: Dullest. Looks as if the rear bumper is trying to poop out its evil twin!?

Some great looking angles, head up the M2 looks better than the 1M (1M weak spot).

Overall: less 'I want' emotions coming up as with the 1M at a higher price.

Handling (the primary reason for buying an ///M):
TBC (hope they had an electric steering breakthrough wrt feedback)

I have to say the M2 looks awesome and I am sure is a great car. But the 1M goes down in history as one of the greatest BMW of all time.

IS the M2 likely to match this ? I think not.

Just my two cents!

I think it looks pretty good, just nowhere near as cool as the 1M.

The 1 had that instant 'must have' appeal, which the M2 doesn't (in images at least).

With that in mind, if I were in the market for another car and the 1M didn't exist I'd certainly be taking one for a drive.

I'm holding off on passing judgement till I see it in person.

Given the specs, the aggressiveness of the stance may surprise.

After the dust settles, I'll buy another 1M at a reduced price

^^^

It took time for everyone to come around to the e93 from e46.

I suspect the M2 will do the same but I doubt prices will tank for the 1M.

Unfortunately.

Oh, and Porsche fully realized that it got pure gold on its hands with the GT4, so it readjusted the pricing policy a little bit. It will launch the Cayman GT4 Clubsport in the near future. All yours for a modest $165,000. KA-CHING...

there will ALSO be a GT4 RS next year....my guess is $110-120K for that one? They are filling up every price range!

Nah, IEDEI, you're confusing with the resale price of a 1M in a few years.
