Non-Working Audio
UPDATE!: I got a software update, December 11, 2009. The update has fixed the audio as well as a few other items:
Best of all though, my audio works 100% of the time now. I mentioned this before, and tried to search for the old thread to no avail (30 minutes searching!). So, new thread. My audio doesn't work about 40% of the time. No audio at all. No chime on start, no chime for no seat belt, no radio, no CD, no iPod, no bluetooth phone, nothing. New Window Excuse the video, it wasn't being recorded with a definite point; just me starting the car before heading off to work with no audio. BMW won't fix it, because while they had possession of it for a week, they couldn't replicate the problem. Any suggestions on a fix would be appreciated. This has been an issue since I picked up my car in December.

As I said before, it's kind of sporadic. This week, it hasn't failed once. But, I guarantee in a couple of weeks it'll fail about 50-60% of the time OR it will fail all day for a day, and work the rest of the week.

OK...so I was 'fortunate' enough to have my car act up this afternoon (Saturday). I generally can't take it in to the dealership during the week due to work. My GF and I got into the car when leaving lunch with some friends. The radio didn't come on...the dial didn't do anything, and neither did the audio button.
I drove straight to the dealership. They had their shop foreman look at it (only look), and scheduled me an appointment for Wednesday (lunch break for me). I hope this issue can get resolved. The customer service at Long Beach BMW is great. I'm not that old, but they don't treat me like a punk kid, or a spoiled kid; just good customer service all-around. I was a bit surprised that they weren't going to try to find any "codes" with the non-working audio since the problem was happening right then and there. Sometimes, it works perfectly, about 2/5 of the time it doesn't. I wonder what they'll do with it to get it working 100%.

So, tomorrow I drop my car off to the dealer for a "fix" for this problem.
I'll miss it!

Got my car back within a 5 and a half hour turn-around.
Apparently, BMW is aware of this problem and is working towards a fix. My Service Adviser asked me to give him a call in 2 weeks; inquiring about a fix for this. I will say the customer service at Long Beach BMW is good. Friendly staff, warm, and welcoming. However, I will ask this: Why did I have to bring it in on Saturday, make an appointment for Wednesday, only to be told, "this is a known problem, BMW Engineers are working on a fix," rather than just told on Saturday, "there is a known problem, we're working towards a fix."

I'm guessing they didn't know it was a known issue until you brought it in on Wednesday? Hopefully they have a fix soon, good luck!

u r not alone
Audio in my 135 ('09 also) went out about 5 weeks ago. First time I returned to dealer (LB BMW) and, of course, radio worked when I started the car for the SA.
A few days later, it went out again and SA witnessed condition. After having car for 2 days, SA said basically same thing - known problem, software fix in works, ... s/w update s/b avaialble in month or so... Based on the feedback you received re: s/w availability schedule, will call them in early June. Good thing the motor plays such sweet music! c1 |

Yeah, the motor is sweet to listen to...while you're accelerating (especially through a tunnel with no other cars in it). But, it's not fun to have no radio when you're stuck in your morning or evening commute to/from work for 40-70 minutes.

I have had a similar problem - power goes off the head unit sporadically. There is an SB on it but no fix as yet.
SI B 65 12 09 - dated April, 2009 Model: E82, E88 (from start of production) and all the E9xs (from 9/07 builds on) Situation: The radio is intermittently inoperative with the ignition on. Only time and date displayed (not true in my case - the display goes blank). No audio output. Radio operates correctly when switched on again after sleep mode. Cause: Software issue in RAD2 (the Professional HiFi - option 663) In my case the 'head unit' power cycles on and off every four or five seconds for about fifteen minutes and then works just fine. So now we wait for better 'code'. ; -) |

I'm just glad I'm not the only one with this problem. They say misery loves company, but in this case, I just want to know a fix is in the works.
atr_hugo seems to have a slightly different problem than what I've been experiencing. Happened to me 3 times today, going to work, coming back from lunch, and going out to the grocery store. That's exactly 50% for today.

Is this a problem we can only hope to see in Professional HiFi cars then?

This happened to me on the drive home from the PCD! NO audio at all after I turned the car back on. Thankfully it was when I was only 25 miles from home or it would've been a boring 600 mile drive! When I turned the car on the next day it worked fine and has been working since.

I haven't called in for a fix...I'm sure it's a long way away...
The problem is more of a nusance than a serious problem. It's a nusance not listening to morning radio commuting to work. It's a nusance not listening to radio on the drive home from work...but it's not all the time. The bigger problems arise when you need to make a phone call/answer a phone call but your audio doesn't work...hence you can't hear anyone if you answer your phone. That and when (as it's happened) you're taking your bosses boss for a ride to the airport, and your radio doesn't work...awkward silence. Also, when you've picked up a hot chick (co-worker, or friend, or whatever) and your audio doesn't work. My GF? I dun care, she knows the car has this problem. She can suffer through the silence. Still, I hope there is a fix along the way.
