OT: Obama's Victory Speech

Hi guys, this isn't meant to start any kind of political discussion, but is just a suggestion to, if you haven't already, make an effort to view the 20 min or so victory speech by US President-Elect Barack Obama.

I hadn't until just now and, irrespective of your views on the man or his party or US politics in general, it's pretty stirring stuff.

My 2c worth...

Try

for starters, you'll see the others from there. I suggest you select 'Watch in High Quality' if you can.

You can turn off the 'annotations' by clicking on the up arrow logo in the bottom right of the YouTube display.

There are several ways to watch it in much better quality than YouTube if you're into torrents.

Wow, indeed a stirring speech. Just means that he has a good speech writer doesn't it? I really hope that he can deliver all that he is promising! I have high hopes for this guy. Seems very genuine.

I do have to say this though. He copied one very famous Bob. Yes we can!

They have professional speach writers create the content, all they do is read it.

WAY, yes, good speechwriter(s) I'm sure, but his delivery was pretty good too, huh? Can you imagine the incumbant giving that speech? I don't think so.

As for Bob, wonder if he'll ask for recompense? Haha!

Fingers crossed is all I can say.

Don't mean to be a gloomy SOB but my general stance on politicians is that they're very good at running for the office but almost always under-perform in it - just look at Rudd!

The president elect determines the tone, the message, and the general content of the speech. It's not an actor reading lines. A speech writer produces a draft that he edits.

Though I do still like Sting's line about politicians, "they all look like game show hosts to me".

I have high hopes for Obama and I hope we're all willing to do our parts.
