i got 2 codes while racing my friends m3

[Boosted_N54]

after a few heavy runs i got these two codes

3100 - Limp Mode
2A87 - VANOS plausibility

CEL light came on so i shut off the car clear the codes with my cobb and then turned it back on and was running fine it never came back on again

anyone knows what caused this?


PS: i spanked the M3

Vanos solenoids most likely.

Easy DIY. You can try cleaning them before replacing - works for some. Didn't work for me, replacing did the trick.

so when I'm full boost they go bad?

or is just there time to go?

I think it just something that happens over time. I got the same two codes just driving normal. Its happen twice so far, I am going to try to clean mine this week. There are some good DIY on youtube as well.

I don't think it is so much they go bad at full boost, but that at higher boost levels you are 'stressing' things more and if they are on their way out, that is where you will see it first.

I could not always trigger the codes, but it would only happen when driving more spirited.

yea om going to change. oth vanos thry look easy to do and its about $100 a peice but how do the Vanos make it go into limp mode?
