Audio Upgrade

Stereo upgrade is done!

Got the tweeters and sub added and now running the 4 standard 4 inch speakers off the new amp. The sound is amazing, clear with tight bass. There is now a difference between mp3's and CD's due to the fact that the speakers can now release all that info to my ears. I recommend this over the hifi upgrade. Anyone else with a similar experience?

One last potential mod is larger front door speakers, still waiting for confirmation from someone is a 5 or 5.25 inch speaker will fit.

tweeters mounted in stock location without problem? What kind of permanent damage was done to do the installation?

I bought genuine BMW tweeter surrounds so it's all stock apart from the speaker itself. No damage whatsoever.

it looks like your alpine amp is installed under the floor panel. Did you find you needed any ventilation? How hot is it running?
thanks.

It's under the trunk floor, digital amps don't make as much heat as analog so it's OK temp wise. Still gets warm though.

Another question for you....are the chimes amplified to the point of being intrusive?

Re your question about speakers for the doors - I haven't seen any posts (including on the UK boards) that say that speakers bigger than 4 inch 50mm deep will fit. But there are lots of good options in 4 inch to get you by.

Chimes aren't any louder, at least I haven't noticed it. I am picking up some noise on start up but am trying to fix it at the moment.

So what are the difference between the tweeter surrounds you purchased and the ones that are in the car to begin with? Did you just buy an extra set to modify and keep the originals if you went back to stock?

It won't be for at least a month, maybe spring but I'll be getting a Blaupunkt THA 555 amplifier and will be replacing all four speakers with 5.25" Polk Audio S50's. The S50's are 5.25" component speakers with a mounting depth of 1.875" which is well within margins and are quite good looking speakers. The Blaupunkt will match the Polks very evenly and will have enough power to drive two SWS-8's should I decide to upgrade those as well.

The original is the same overall shape but without the grille.

Your US 135i already has that tweeter surround from factory. The OP 1 Series is Australian.
