265's on rear w/ Fender Rolling

I am currently running the stock 264's w/ the typical 255 setup in the rear. Traction is still an issue w/ the added HP. I've been trying to find some detail on running 265's, but to be honest this doesn't seem to be a popular option. i would think i need larger wheels over the 264's maybe 9/9.5 wide. In addition i would like to get my fenders rolled.

Is this even a feasible option? I don't want rubbing, and if i were to lower the car would i definitely incur rubbing issues?

thanks

You don't need to roll fenders to fit a 265 onto a wider wheel. You just need a wider wheel with a true 1 series offset. Sadly most wheels being used on the 1 series are either narrow, or a 3 series wheel with too aggressive offsets.

The APEX ARC-8 wheel was developed over a year ago for this very reason. The rear wheel is 18x9.5" et62 (note the high offset to account for the added wheel width).

You can easily run a 265/35/18 on this wheel on both stock and lowered cars with zero rubbing. Members are even running 275/35/18 rear tires or even 275/35/18 r-compounds without rubbing issues (unless the car is slammed/lowered excessively low).

Here are some photos to show the fitment:

And some other wide front/rear setups

This is very nice. Do you know what kind of suspension setup does this car have?

I use the Apex wheels and am on 275's in front and 255's in back. With camber plates and KWv2's, the car is a traction beast!

Details:

Rear 275's: I did have to roll the fenders, and raise my coilovers a bit to get the clearance. With Dunlop Star spec 275's on Apex wheels, they will also rub on the inside BIG TIME. I gad to put 5mm spacers on the back to keep them from rubbing. If I hit a crazy knock-a-tooth-loose dip, I bet they are still rubbing a little on the inside. So... go 265's and save yourself the headache. There's a good chance you might still need to do a fender roll, but you can do a really minor one like I did. Not even noticeable from the outside.

Front 255's: Funny enough, these were easier to get fitted. I did have to do a light fender roll. No spacers needed.

I have 265 star specs on the rears on stock suspension and wheels. I only rub when the car is full of people and junk. Also only on dips in the road and not potholes.

I have 265 rear Yoko AD08s on 9.5" APEXs, and there's plenty of clearance. These run a bit wider than Star Specs, but even with an adult in the back seat, there's no rubbing at all in the rear, period. I could go wider, but a 275 width isn't available in this tire. I did no rear fender rolling at all, but I'm also on stock suspension/stock ride height. For me, the front 255 width fitment was the challenge.

You're car was set way too low which was discussed in your thread related to your rubbing issue. You are the only one running 275 star specs that had this issue. Too much extra negative rear camber and setting like that can also easily cause inside rubbing issues with wide rubber.

I don't want to hijack this thread, as it's already been covered before. I just wanted to disclose in this thread that you were the only one with this issue, so that others do not think they also need fender rolling and a spacer to make that tire fit on that wheel.

The only issue with running 265's on the stock rears besides the rubbing, is that 265's were not meant to be run on 8.5" wheels, so you're pulling the corners of the thread up off the ground, effectively making the tire narrower, and the bulging sidewalls allow for a lot of flex. I would not be surprised to see GPS data show that 255 rears in the same tire compound would turn a faster lap because it is better sized for that wheel.

That is very true and I definitely should have mentioned that!

I did raise the rear up about 1"-1.5" after discovering the rubbing. So, I should have clarified... if you're on coilovers and want to run 275's on Apex's in the rear- it's best to be near or at the stock ride height in the rear.

thanks for the info here... are there any other wheel/tire combos that would work well for the 235/265... i dont think i want to go 275 since that seems to be pushing it, especially keeping in mind potential lowering in the future. thanks.

nobody has any other 265 tire setup ups on aftermarket rims? i don't mind the Apex's however i would like a little more curvature in the rim. The Apex seem like they are flush.

Depends on where you're rubbing.

I looked at the fender and seems like it is rubbing at the fender liner in the back? I'm not really sure it also rubs in the front when I hit the dips on the road and have passengers.
