I've had, Jb4, Procede and Cobb. If you want something easy to install, set and forget type of thing, get a Cobb. If your out to get max hp and be the quickest on the block. Get a Jb4 and a Cobb to do the BMS flash. If you got a older car, and dont like spending money on small things like spark plugs, coil packs or fuel injectors, then stay away from Jb4. If you run a Jb4 on a car thats not well maintained, then you'll have issues and blame it on the Jb4. |

N54 gets better power from a Cobb (as I've read). N55 gets better power from a JB4 as there is nothing for a 2012+ 135i from Cobb unless it's some early model 2012s can use Cobb but I haven't looked to deep since they released it for the 2011 N55 a couple months back.
But if you want true power from a real tune then go to a professional, well known local tuner. Remember though, it'll void your warranty but he'll be able to make more and better power than JB4/Cobb/Procede can as he can set it to where you want it. |

I have Cobb for the reason that it is SUPER easy to remove and install. You just plug it in and start to load the map and it saves your stock map to the unit and you can back it up on your computer. You can also hook it up to your computer and upload stage 2 maps or whatever maps are released. Going from stock to Stage 1 is night and day. I now run stage 2 and sometimes Stage 1+ FMIC. While you drive you can also see on the COBB AP live data like boost, intake temp, RPM, etc. It also has a built in shift light lol. Its awesome man, worth the money in my opinion! For the record I seen up to 14-15psi in Stage 1+ and it tapers to about 9-10 at higher RPM, it makes me happy

The spreadsheet is hopelessly out of date. Cobb released the AccessTuner Race which allows you to hand touch dozens of tables in the ECU. It's really for advanced users, but it could be on that spreadsheet as dozens of feature checkboxes that the other devices don't have.
The logging is excellent as well. You can record something like 18 parameters at like 30hz+ which is reallly good. You can see exactly what is going on, and its built in to the AP device itself. No laptop required, no extra purchases. Load the CSV in whatever to analyze. I wouldn't even think to consider any reflash where you have to take it somewhere or remove your ECU and mail it somewhere.

I should add that I have an N55 and have been waiting since I bought the car last May (2012) for Cobb to release an AP for my DME version...cobb was always my first choice and I even cleared it with my dealer who said they would continue to work on it in warranty regardless of the tune.

Love my cobb, i cant run the 93 map yet because my coils seem to fail.. but even the 91 stage 2+ map is awesome and i love being able to Datalog and check codes so easily... also its super easy to uninstall for a dealer visit.. eventually ill get a pro-tune... jb4 just doesnt compete with these things imo

I had Cobb on my evoX, now I have Cobb on my 135. OTS maps are good but I can't wait to get a protune with this car as I did my X. Easy to use, great customer service, and the monitoring aspect is a plus as well.

N55 Stage 3 here with oil cooler/FMIC with no other mods car made 311-317hp 374-379 ft. lbs torque on a dynojet dyno. It actually made less power with the BMS intake so I took it off.
The car is obviously quicker than stock, but I think the the advertised hp numbers from Dinan are way over stated. Torque seems to be as advertised though. Car pulls like a demon in every gear as long as your above 2k. As for drivability it is spot on. Zero flat spots, zero issues with limp mode, very consistent on the track and street. I wish it was cheaper, but I'd do it again if I had the chance. |
