Would anyone be able to recommend a battery that would fit the brace in our cars? I'm looking at getting a optima yellowtop and it seems a lot smaller then our factory supplied battery.

I believe any H6, H7, and H8 battery will fit in our trunk. I recently changed out my battery for an H8 agm from advanced auto parts. I don't believe there's an OEM fitment with the optimas so you would have to make some kind of modified hold down.

I highly recommend the Autozone Duralast H8-AGM. I just replaced my original (2010) battery in my 128i with that model from Autozone. Fits perfectly, including the vent tube which plugs into the same end with the existing elbow, and comes with a cap to cap off the other end. It is slightly longer than the OEM battery, but still fits perfectly because the bracket has two screw holes to mount the battery, and this battery simply requires you to use the 2nd mounting hole instead of the shorter original one. It is an improvement over the OEM battery in CCA, also glass-mat which is an upgrade. My cost (on sale) was $179, and along with purchasing Carly-BMW (Android) at $50 to register it still came in at less than half what the dealer quoted. They told me battery replacement was $470 including labor. Very easy job to do yourself, if you get the registration software, and you will save a lot of $$$.

I thought to be able to register (instead of code) a new battery, you needed an identical spec'd one. Does the CCA not matter in the spec? I noticed on getbmwparts there are 3 different batteries for our car... seems to only differ in CCA.

CCA does not matter as long as you have the same (or close enough) AH. getbmwparts doesn't show the AH, but if you look up the 720 vs the 640 they have different AH ratings.

Whaaaaat?? $470 or $500 for battery replacement and registering?

That's shocking price! I need to change the battery soon, but Amazon doesn't show Carley BMW bluetooth adapters anymore. Anyone can help me with battery registeration? I'll buy a lunch or coffee.

BTW, Is this a good battery?

Do you need a trickle charger? I am ok with resetting my radio stations and what not..
Or is there something else?

I randomly check my JB4 for codes cause I am paranoid and I got the 387F code, which points to the battery I think, silly since its a 2011 with only 25k on it :*(

Thinking about hitting up a auto parts store and getting carly app...

Ok so the other day my car wouldn't start so I had to get it jumped and that worked. so I assumed it just needed to be charged. so I went out and bought a charger, had it charging over night. Went to start it again and nothing. So I guess I have to get a new battery and after reading everyone's comment about not taking it to the stealership I'm on board to do the same. my question is what is the smallest battery I could go with besides the H8-AMG

As I mentioned earlier, you can go with H6, H7, and H8. My original battery from BMW was a H6. From Guam135i's pictures, you can see it has 3 mounting points -- one for each size mentioned above.

Did you post this in the N5x Facebook group? I know people recommended using MHD there. Problem is it doesn't seem to be coded yet. It's probably just a carry-over function from the N54 MHD app.

I wrote this guide on how to register/code a battery: https://www.spool

street.com/forums/threads/register-and-code-a-new-battery.1020/

It walks you through some of your other options.
