Short drives are just a factor in the overall issue of carbon build up, not a direct cause.

Was your engine running poorly before you found the build up?
How many miles?

There is another thing that people can try to help with build up, hotter plugs.
This is something that was recommended in older cars with build up.
Hotter plugs can help keep build up in check.

Hotter plugs weren't a great idea with older turbo tech as they tend to keep the comb chamber hotter overall and that could lead to greater change of detonation.
But, direct injection cools the chamber much better than non DI, and that has helped increase compression ratio. DI cools the chamber at a greater level and that could be a contributing factor to greater deposit build up as it may not get hot enough long enough to help burn off the deposits.
That's why I'm thinking a hotter plug may help with this problem, and DI will keep temps in check.

I only have about 28K miles and my 135i lease is up at the end of June.
No running problems at this mileage, and I change the oil only when the comp tells me to.

No Engine problems before 12 or 15k cant remember.. But around 25 and up started seeing really bad carbon issues. Only used premium gas too.

Ah the wastegate issue, could I get a clearer explanation on how to diagnose this? I would want to know how to tell if my turbos are bad before my warranty is up in a few months time.
Thanks,
