330i no sunroof

Hi all,

I'm 6'2'' and barely fit into the 330i with a sunroof. I guess I'm tall from the waist up or something. My head is not on the liner but my hair touches a bit. There is a limit too how much I'll put the seat back to fit into a car - I won't drive in a prone position

My local dealer tells me that I can special order the car without a sunroof for about $300. If I went this way I would order no sunroof, no sharkfin and no model badges.

I'm looking for opinions in how badly the lack of sunroof will impact future resale, particularily since it could be 1 of a very few without. Thoughts?

thx

I don't see why he wants $300 for deleting an option.

You might also consider a 325 with a manually adjustable seat. One member of this board who is 6'5" reported that he fit into a car with this seat more easily. If you haven't tested the 325, you should. It's almost as powerful as last year's 330 and pretty satisfying.

I'm 6'2 also. I weigh about 220lbs. I fit fine in my 330i. Have you tried to lower the seats, not just forward and backwards but up and down.

I'm surprised that your dealer is saying you can order the car without sunroof. I had heard that it was just not available in the US.

The $300 sounds to be the same "custom order fee" that another member from Canada was quoted when trying to order an option not usually available on their car in Canada. So I don't think that is made up although its up to you whether its worth deleting the sunroof for that much.

Could go two ways I'm thinking (leaning towards the first) - 1) it will hurt resale since all other E90's on the market will have sunroof, and why would anyone purposely choose a car without sunroof (which brings me to the second possibility, 2) it may actually fetch a slightly higher price because either the person thinks its unique, tall person needs the extra little space, person wants the extra saving in weight or extra rigidity (say they want to track the car or something).

Ya, I got the same story from a BMW rep at an auto show and a dealer. Initially the dealer said "no" but I mentioned I had heard this from another source and he looked into it.

Presumably there is a standard 330i production line set up that includes sunroof installation (since it is standard) and there is a cost associated with doing something custom. Perhaps I am just being charitable though.....

Sunroof and non-sunroof car have a completely different chassis

USA cars are produced with European cars ( which dont have sunroofs standard ), so there is no cost involved to them, they just choose one of the other chassis to work on
