PCD Mishap
Long story short, I feel shafted... I have PCD tomorrow and for the past 5 months i've been planning my life around tomorrow. I even roped 3 of my buddies to drive down from NJ with their cars. We're about 5 hours into our 12 hour drive and I get a phone call from the performance center. Basically they tell me the ABS control unit went bad on my 1m and I will not be able to pick up my car!!!! They did a nation wide search for the part to see if they could locate one in the US because it will take 1 week to ship from Germany. Basically I can come and do the PCD experience but cannot leave with my car. So as of right now I'm about an hour from Greenville. To their credit they were very apologetic, but it sucks that they just did the quality inspection 24 hours before arrival. The car has been there since the 28th. They are supposed to call me again with an update tomorrow to see if anything changes, I'm not holding my breath though. They did say they will make it right for me, which I believe they will, but I really just want what I've been planning for months. Hopefully they call me tomorrow with some good news.

Bro, don't let it spoil your trip. Drive the wheels of the PCD cars, make them ship yours to pick up at a local dealer all nice and fresh and enjoy te few days with your buds. You'll forget all about it once your 1M is in the garage (with a boot full of free goodies from the apologetic BMW guys....)

Why wouldn't they yank one out of a car that is being delivered in a few weeks. If my car were there and I wasn't due to pick up for a few weeks I would tell them to give you my abs control unit.

Guys, thanks for the overwhelming support! I'm sure they will make it up to me somehow. Just really frustrating after obsessing over every little detail about this car for so long. Off to bed now, hope they have some good news for me in the morning.

You ARE the man, robertm. Mad props. To the OP, I agree with everyone else. Have a great time at PCD and dont worry. Easy for us to say, I know. But, one thing I've learned about the brand, they will make it right. I predict you will be happy in the end. besides, whats one more week after months of waiting? Drive the piss out of their car, though! Pyrat

As they say...drive the PDC cars like you stole them, and are being chased!!!
Have a good time, and just think of the miles you will save on your car! |

Just wanted to say thank you for calling Ginger this morning and offering the part off your car. Unfortunately they were not able to do that because the part is programmed to the VIN. I really appreciate what you did for me. Anyway to update everyone on my situation I did PCD day which was awesome and got orientation with my car however I was not allowed to leave with it. Really heartbreaking after spending a day really pushing one. As soon as I find out how I will be getting my car once the part is replaced, in about a week, I'll update everyone. Also great ,meeting the other 1Mers. Get home safe guys. |

Sorry I wasn't able to help ya out. I was on the phone with Ginger as soon as she arrived this morning and she was receptive to the idea. Had to talk to the head tech though to get his input. I never heard back from her before my 2:30-6:30 training meeting and was wondering the whole time if she was trying to call me for final authorization.
As I understand it from her voicemail the VIN is imprinted in the the software once the abs module is powered up and they were concerned my module wouldn't work right in your car. (Or something along those lines) Anyways, sorry we couldn't work something out for ya. It sounds like you guys at least had a good time hooning the factory cars |

Met OAM and Bentone today at PCD. Great guys and good times. We had fun with the cars even though it was raining early in the day.
I think it has been stressed here but PCD is a must. I am sure OAM will share some pics or video, he had all the gadgets. Car is awesome. I am in Jacksonville on my way to Miami and these 350 miles of driving have been awesome. The car is superb. Cant wait to be able to go past 5500rpms.... |
