It'll still be close to 50/50, probably with heavier duty tranny, brakes, suspension in the back to handle all the extra power. But ANY extra total vehicle weight is not conducive to good handling at all, especially now that the 335i will weighs 200lb more than the 530i and only 150lb less than the 550i!

What I'm wondering is how well the rear diff can cope with 300 lb-ft. without an LSD.

No

German official specs list 335i as 1600Kg Using EU standard ( Includes 75 Kg load )
550i is listed as 1735Kg Using EU standard
Thas a 135Kg difference, which is 297 pounds

So 335i is 297lb less than 550i

Sorry, slight miscalculation on my part.
From BMW USA, the difference is 235 lb.

How about we split the difference of the difference?

Either way, it is still heavy, without the benefit of lightweight aluminum front as in the 5 series.

So, we agree that the 335i will be somewhat heavier than the current 330i and 325i. Even if they retain the balance, I wonder how much handling will be affected by the extra weight?

I must say that the E90 feels a bit quicker on turn in than my E46, even though the E90 is a bit heavier. Maybe BMW will be able to work some magic and make a car that is 200 lbs heavier feel the same weight on the twisties.

But a 330i is looking pretty good. I'm seriously thinking of getting an e90 330i just to get the better mileage and still decent power, before it's too late.
