actual 0-60 Time?
Any one have an idea what the actual 0-60 time will be for the 1M? I am going to say at least 4.4 or 4.3. Seeing as the 135 will do 4.7-4.6 times confirmed by 3 test magazines, BMW is way off on their projected time of 4.7 for this new model.

BMW quoted 5.2 for the 135i, it ran 4.7s. I'll stick my neck out and say someone's going to see a 4.3 from the 1M on a grippy surface.

Curious what your issue is other than not enough of a spec change? From where I'm sitting it will likely be quicker to 60 than any new M with a sub $2k tune (totally safe with good gas) and out-handle any new M as well... For sub 50k in a new car what were you expecting?

Depends who is performing the tests.
SportAuto found in a test between the 135i (306PS) and AC Schnitzer ACS1 3.5i (360ps). 135i 0-100km/h 5,2s 0-160km/h 12,3s ACS1 3.5i 0-100km/h 4,8s 0-160km/h 10,8s I'd expect the 1M to match the ACS times when SportAuto test it. Just for another example AutoZeitung got the following figures for the 135i (306PS) 0-100km/h 5,2s 0-160km/h 11,7s Last edited by conneem-TT; 12-18-2010 at 07:04 AM.. |

Not sure if you were responding to my question or not, but they still don't say how they got 3.9. If you program this thing for launch control, turn off traction control, set it M Dynamic mode, have to have enough time to rev it to 4000 RPM to actuate it while holding the brake pedal and Venus has to cross in front of Mercury, then you launch and get 3.9 0-60. Fine but in the real world you are just at a light it's ready to go green and some douchy guy in a V6 Camry launches on you in order to cut you off even though you have the right-of-way, etc. I just don't think they should use 0-60 times that require 3 days of reading and Ninja like electronic and physical execution to a manual where you rev it and drop the clutch. It's also not as much fun getting to 60 when you are anxious about going through the whole launch sequence. I think this is overlooked by those that are sold an automatic based on 0-60 times.

And 60 MPH = 100km/h. Sure its actually 62 mph, but the 2 mph doesn't matter much. I'm sure the OP meant 100 km/h anyway. |

The car will show low 4 second times.
1. Don't cross shop US and European magazine times. US mags use the drag racing standard allowing a 1 foot roll out. This provides a 0.3-0.4 s advantage to 60 (for a car getting to 60 in 4-5 seconds) over the no roll out method. 2. BMW is extremely conservative in its 0-60 numbers and rightfully so. They know the magazines will get much better numbers. What does BMW say for the M3, 4.7 or 4.8? What does is deliver, 3.9-4.1. 3. Pay attention to the spread in results. If you want bragging rights you can choose the best number a car has ever shown. If you want a realistic number choose something around the average. Have a look at the spreads for the M3 here for example. Anyway 0-100, is a better indicator of a cars real performance. 0-60 is way too dependent on driver, tires, road surface, temperature, AWD vs. RWD, etc. And here the 1M is going to be in the 10-11 second range.
