Fuel Odor

Hi All,

Need your help with a problem I've been experiencing as of late. I did some searching and couldn't really find anything on point... I've been smelling fuel after the car has been sitting (usually over night) and have been having this problem for several months. Lately The smell in the cabin has gotten worse, probably because I am doing more windows up driving (my guess). I have a BMW performance Tune and the Updated HPFP. Car is a 2008 135 with just under 40,000 miles. Does anyone have any ideas that I can bring to my dealer??

Thanks!

CoralRed > Smell inside the car?? It could have something to do with the LPFP (Low Pressure Fuel Pump) vent-line/ventilation system. The LPFP bucket is practically inside the car. Its located underneath the passenger side back seat.

From my understanding, anything on the car that is fuel related (LPFP, HPFP, Gas Cap, etc.) has a vent-line leading to a charcoal canister/filtration system.

The vent-line itself (that leads into the LPFP bucket) is tucked in pretty good, so I don't suppose anything could have damaged it.

It could be that the charcoal canister (or something related to the ventilation system) has failed.

Here is a link to the part...

Here is what it looks like/where it's located...

Note: Sorry for the bad pic. The canister is hanging towards the far right. I had disconnected it and forgot to bolt it back up for the pic.

Thanks! And yes.. Inside the car. I can even smell it coming through the air vents (it seems to be worse when the air is blowing). I can also smell it in the trunk...

I actually had. I'm actually kinda mad at myself for not putting 2 and 2 together sooner... But I park my car out side (my roadster gets the garage) and I'm a "windows down" guy so I didnt notice until I drove with the windows up for about 30 miles the other day. I'm just glad the stuff didnt ignite!!

Has anyone experienced anything similar?? I wonder if the PPK had anything to do with it...
