How many keeping their 135i long term?

Hello All,

I am wondering if anyone on the board is considering going the distance with the 135i regardless of all its issues. I am rapidly putting miles on my car and am considering buying an extended warranty and maybe extending the maintenance plan as well. I love my car and there arent any other cars that I really would like to drive on a daily basis.

I typically don't keep cars that long before getting bored but I seriously could see me driving my 1 for 5 years I ordered my 135 early on (3/08 build) so im at 1.5 years and 30k already and still luv it

Any opinions are appreciated.

Brian

Only time will tell for me, I got mine in July and have 9.5k on it. I want to see if there are many turbo falures or things of the nature a few years down the road.

I also hope to keep my 2009 135i for many years. The last car I kept for longer than 2 years was my 2000 323Ci, which I kept 4 + years. The 135i is my fourth car since the 323Ci , including a 335i which was just too big. The 135i is an amazing car and meets my needs very well. Since I drive less than 10k miles per year, I will get the full 4 years out of the warranty. The only other car I can think of wanting would be a Porsche Cayman, but it would not be as practical as the 135i. Besides, I had many problems with my 2 Porsche 911's.

I love my 1ner but im skeered of all the out of warranty repair bills. I will probably trade it in once its out of warranty. Just about the time the new sports versions start coming out. lol

if you plan on keeping this car past the fuel pump warranty you are clinically insane.

For pure financial reasons it makes more sense for me to keep the car...even with all of my issues.

Im at 25K right now (June 08 Build). So im running through the warrenty a bit quickly. Im doing 7K oil changes and I plan on doing a transmission flush every 25- 30K miles. My dad did this on his Mountaineer the thing has 150K miles on it with no mechanical issues, its currently the winter car. Ive also already been rearended twice, so my resale is in the crapper.

My current attitude is to save up money and mode whatever breaks once im out of warrenty, the steering wheel peeling for 3rd time? Might as well buy the EAS wheel. HPFP failure takes out one of the Turbos? Might as well get the HPF Stage 2 package. haha

I'm ABSOLUTELY keeping it for a long time. I had my 2002 330xi for 7+ years and 92,000 miles. It was a great car, and my only issues were 3 failed window regulators.

The 135i is bound to run into some issues as well, but the depreciation hit of another new car is extreme by comparison.

Bought mine, so plan to keep it for a long time unless reliability becomes an issue, e.g. if HPFP were to occur with it and reoccur...

Since much of the 135i is made up of components from the 335i which is one of the more common BMWs I would not be too concerned about the long term prospects, at least no more than any other BMW.

If everything goes as planned, mine will be gone spring/summer.

I spend too much time travelling long distance in it on tight schedules.
I love the car, hate the risk.

I'm hoping to replace it with a Z06, but that may change between now and then.

I hold onto my BMWs about 10 years. In this case it will be 9.5 years. I will be dumping this car before the the 10-year extended warranty on the HPFP also craps out.

Long Term for me.
Probably 10 years........that's the plan anyway.
I got the extended warranty for that POST 40K mile peace of mind.
I did not get the extended maintenance.

Dunno how long I'll have it, but I usually replace cars every coupla three years. It depends what comes out in 2011. So, I'll keep my options open.

Those talking about HPFP issues, don't worry about it. BMW is not going to want to keep on replacing them for years to come. It would be far too expensive to not have an extremely durable replacement in the near future (within the next year or so).

Interesting answers so far...

Well im on my 3rd fuel pump already and I do about 20k miles a year so I will hit the 100k in no time!

So it looks like about 5 years will work and I will absolutely have to buy the extended warranty for the piece of mind.

I will probably get rid of it right before the warranty dries up.
