Clicking here too, rather loud when pulling out of a parking space/garage.

I can't really duplicate mine anywhere except in the mountains. I'm coming up on my first dealer service, so I'm going to make a list for them when I take it in, and this will be on it. I just can't imagine what would make this kind of noise by design. :iono: |

I should have seen this thread sooner. I think my thread in another section.
it's the dust brake cover. it needs to be re-torqued.

i have no idea.
i brought it in because of the perceived problem. took them a few hours to figure out what it was. but they only did the side that was clicking (left). a few weeks later, noticed the other side, and had to take it back in for them to retorque the right. why didn't they do both?! anyway, problem is gone, and i bet that's what everyone here in this thread is hearing.

Mine's doing this too. I took it in for warranty work (third brake light replacement) and they removed the wheel, and checked everything, and the sound went away. It came back less than a week later. I may try to thread lock the backing plate bolts to see if that cures it.

just bring it in and tell them they need to re-torque the brake dust cover/shield on both sides!

Got my 1 two months ago. Now that the car is broken in, I started taking an enjoyable canyon road to work, and I too noticed a "clicking" sound from the front left wheel during hard right turns. Took the car to Rusnak yesterday. Turns out the wheel lug nuts weren't torqued down enough. Pretty scary coming from BMW this way. The sound is now gone. In short, check your lugs!

Ok fellas, I don't know if this helps you but here goes. I'm a tech at a dealership in socal and I just got a new 135. I noticed the same noise during heavy right hand turns. You may want to check the torque on your wheel bolts. Just this morning I pulled my car in and hit all the wheel bolts with my impact. I took a few more corners and the noise was gone. Sometimes fasteners get slightly undertorqued at the factory-not necessarily loose enough to come off but loose enough to shift slightly under load. I've seen it on subframe nuts/bolts, control arms, etc on other cars(don't want to scary you). Give it a shot. F.Y.I. 17mm socket 110nm/80ftlbs.

After an auto-x 2 weeks ago I started having this clicking during 70%-100% lock right turns. I've re-torqued the wheel bolts and and tightened the front cross brace too. Anyone have any info on how to torque the brake dust cover? I want to try this tomorrow before making an appointment at the dealer.
I can replicate the sound every time I turn, so at least I can show them if I do have to go, but would prefer to do it myself. Anybody?

Well, after the dealership said my clicking sound was fixed by tightening the lugs, it's still there. Brought it back a second time, and they couldn't replicate it around town and said all is well based on another inspection of the lugs, subframe and dust shield.
I take a canyon road to and from work every day, and under load the sound is still very evident on hard right turns from the front left wheel area. It won't show up on street driving. I'll probably wait until I do my first oil change at a local independent shop (Bavarian Workshop) and have them investigate further, because the dealer has been a waste of my time. Something is still amiss. |

Yeah, my click is always there, not just durning spirited driving. Have you gone and driven in circle slowely in a parking lot varying your turn angle? That sucks that they can't replicate your noise. I'd rather figure it out and fix it myself if possible.

I had the same issue and fixed it...
Clicking in both front ends on hard turns - was able to duplicate it for the service guy at Rasmussen BMW in Portland. I apparently had melted the backing off my brake pads at the track (stock pads are not so good IMHO). They replaced the pads (with a gentle hint that they wouldn't do so again before my brake service interval) and the sound is gone.
With that said - any number of loose issues would have been fixed in that area when then replaced the pads, but the service tech, with a ton of experience was confident that this was the issue. Hope this helps. added - This fix was about 3 weeks ago, hasn't come back. Just did a small 1 hour track session on Saturday - we will see if that was enough to melt the glue that holds the backing on pads. |
