Thank you all for the welcomes and compliments. And from someone that has both high horsepower and small and nimble; I like both for different reasons. For the 128i I think about 40 more hp and 20-30 more ft#'s and it would be perfect! And no I don't want a 135; good cars, but you'll notice its all NA in my stable.

One question; what the heck is up with all the E60 hate on this board? I know many hate the SMG, but that's cuz you can't drive it! Absolutely one of my favorite transmission. I like cars with heart soles if I wanted a fast boring car I would buy a GT-R or an F10....ohhh did I say that..... Just ribbing after reading so many E60 hate posts....

Cheers!

Welcome and nice pickup, enjoy it!

I don't particularly have any E60 hate, but from the few people I've talked to with SMG have always seemed less then ecstatic about its quirkiness, along with the cost of any service they needed done. Other than that, I don't see the big deal, I think the E60 is gorgeous, love both your rides!

You can gain on the order of 40hp with the 3 stage intake, a tune, and headers. You should check out the 128i part of the technical forum. The intake and tune should get on the order of 25-30 hp, taking you up to about the 128i in the 330i. To go higher headers seems like the right path - with a different tune.

Looks like he has the special Aero rims supposed to help with drag reduction?

Yes many complain of the SMG, because they are expecting an auto tranny or one that acts like one , but is quicker. Took me some time to drive it smoothly and it takes awareness while driving to run smooth. I knew what it was and what I was buying so I love its character. I've been in some fast cars and the 1/4 mile tracks most my life and this is still the most brutal shifting factory tranny in a production car. If people want smooth and reliable get a Honda. The people who keep complaining about everything that gave M cars their character they are the ones that are destroying M. For purist we'll just move to another brand or build our own I buy my cars for the enjoyment not what R&T or C&D says is the fastest. Take any production car they test and it will gets its doors blown off in the 1/4 by a garage built ford Pinto
Cheers!

Thanks and have looked and can do some things, but I have the SULEV so from what I have read a little limited. By the way to tell if you have an SULEV the valve cover is black vs tan; from what Turner has stated anyhow.

Cheers

I don't think that's true.

You should check your VIN at RealOEM.com to verify if you have the N51 (SULEV) or N52 (ULEV) engine.

Per Turner Motorsport's:
http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-11...28i-sulev.aspx

"This software file is for the N51 engine SULEV model only. SULEV is a specification used in some parts of the US where emissions compliance is critical (mostly in California, the Northwest, and the Northeast). The computer and engine specs are different than the 'regular' 128i N52 engine. You can tell if yours is the SULEV spec by its black valve cover. The regular N52 engines use a silver valve cover."

I had the color wrong on the standard as it's silver not tan. Was going from memory!

Cheers!

Hmm.

My 128i has a black valve cover, but according to its VIN, it's an N52 engine... Who do I believe?

Did you use an online decoder? They're not always that accurate. If BMW has stated it then I'm not sure what to say, but I do know mine is SULEV;(. Not that I have any idea what the driving difference is as I don't think there are any, but mod differ for sure!

Cheers!

There should be markings on the engine block somewhere indicating what engine model it is... I vaguely remember it being on the intake manifold side.

I found the ID label on the engine block: N52B30.

EDIT: Here's a VIN decoder that TheSt|G pointed out in another thread: http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

Syd53,

I sent you two others and no response so I'm not sure if you are getting or due to the delay not interested? Anyhow bumper goes on Friday and clear bra on Monday. Oh yeah and new fogs as I incurred some damage:
