Strange I don't recall having that issue. I could be wrong, though

Pro-tip #1

The plastic plugs retaining the carpet to the body are different from the Left vs Right side of the car on a US spec 2010 135.

The left side is a 2 stage retaining clip, remove the inner, smaller, plug first and it comes out easily. I messed with it for 3 minutes before I realized I was being a numpty. The right side is a simple expanding, thick, fastener that is basically ruined once you remove it. Good thing it doesn't have to withstand much force.

Other than the plastic fasteners the job is incredibly easy and Dack's DIY is excellent.

I do have concerns over the rubber ducting not sitting flush with the body of the car in the rain channels, I'm thinking that water is definitely going to find its way into the lights. Any suggestions? Fixes?
This could be a non issue but I am very pedantic and have an anal attentive attention to detail. It's the engineer in me.

@MLSavage: The funny things is that BMW replaced both my tail lights with updated stock lights (as Dack started out with) under warranty, and it is exactly the same in that I had to try and get the rubber further under the boot rubber. It just looks like a design weakness to me. Sorry for the sacrilege in saying BMW could possible have a design flaw.

I already have a few ideas on getting the water to flow over the rubber instead of under it.

Does Schmiedmann get their lights from BMW? I do think they are design issues so much as tolerance and molding issues. That is a very peculiar feature and has to be perfect to work correctly. That would add a lot of cost. Would be nice if they would come out with a retrofit kit for the ones that are bad instead of replacing the entire units. Because if they have to replace mine I will have to order them myself.

I bought mine at my local German dealer.
Since US bmw dealers can not order EU parts... you need to order it from a EU dealer. Most have gotten their Blacklines at Schmiedmann

xenon LCI blackline kit... #63-21-2-225-282 for 320 euros...

So basically I got in a baby accident a while ago and my rear passenger tail was cracked! I was furious... accident was not my fault. Anyway, I figured it was a perfect time to upgrade to the LCI's as I have a 01/09 build. I should mention that the blackline LCI's from schmiedmann (model number ending #282) was a perfect P and P fit. No coding or anything. Only difference is now my daytime running lights are also on in the rear. I like this.

So without further ado... here are my LCI upgrades completed with the blacklines from Schmiedmann. They were here in Chicago in less than a week from purchase order. Fedex sent me an email to fill out an HS7 customs declaration form and that was it. Easy peasy. Great packaging and less than 20 minutes to install the pair. Longest time spent was just trying to get the gaps/spacing around the lights nice and even. I found it easiest to torque down the top of the three bolts first, then the other two.

Here's some more pictures of what to expect from Schmiedmann, and some other random stuff, if it isn't aready abundantly clear from this great DIY.

Oh, and some quick notes. Don't forget to remove the (-) battery terminal before beginning. It can't hurt and I've read reports of people getting issues without doing that. Also, I found it helped me to start on the driver side first to get a good feel for it, because my passenger side has a stupid cargo net thing which makes it a PITA to pull the cargoliner back.

Anyway... i'm beyond pleased. the new LCI's look sweet, especially the blacklines. much meaner looking. <3 Anything for my gurl! daddy treats her right!

Yes, the #273 and #274 are the correct Blackline LCI tails to work with Xenon equipped cars. Actually they also work on halogen cars too.

But a better deal is to order BMW's Blackline LCI tail light kit. It comes with right AND left tails at a slightly lower price.

BMW p/n 63212225282

Since I live in Germany I simply bought my Blacklines from my local BMW Zentrum. A US dealer will not be able to order these bc BMW will not sell you euro non DOT approved parts. So most 1Addicts have bought from Schmiedmann. You have them most likely in less than a weeks time via FedEx.

$322 for the #282 kit...

Yes, they ship all over the world. You might have to pay a customs fee. But most do not. Read the Blackline LCI thread to learn more. Its pretty much hassle free with buying from Schmiedmann. I would pay extra for FedEx shipping though. The German Post is very slow.

Noop. I did not remove it on my car. I think some people just like to over think things(and play it safe). You are perfectly ok by unplugging the tail light connector and installing the new one.

Also you don't need to remove the rubber boot liner, just simply lift the lip.
