Start Button

I've noticed I can press the start button 1/2 second, then wait for the engine to start, or hold it down 2 or 3 seconds until the engine starts. Does it matter which method I use?

If you've got a couple of seconds, hold it down... if in a rush just click it

Doesn't matter at all. You're not doing anything except telling the computer to start the car. It handles the details.

I noticed the other day you can hit the button then engage the clutch and the car will still start. Of course normally I engage the clutch then hit the button.

Not sure how long you can wait before engaging the clutch. I assume if you wait to long it wont start the car.

Sounds like this thread needs a poll to find out who is click guy (or gal) and who is a press and hold guy

Press and hold guy right here Got make sure you push that button good! No half measures in starting this guy's car.

If you push it and hold it down for 10 seconds, that initiates the self-destruct procedure.

If you hold it more than 3 seconds, the car actually does not blow up! It's time to drop the joke. My question was real, because I know with regular key starting cars you could mess things up by keeping the key turned after the car started.

Last edited by pick333; 05-28-2014 at 03:33 AM.. Reason: to stop the joking around.

Greg, you got it wrong. Holding it for 10 seconds starts the passenger seat eject sequence. Tapping it ten times, initiates self destruct. Read page 164 of the manual under section X.12, article A.

If you pump it successively three times it primes the HPFP and prevents failure every time. True story.

I heard that if you hold it down for 10 seconds, push the DTC 5 times, turn the radio volume dial exactly 4 turns to the right and then push the emergency flashers you will get 10psi of additional boost.

This is becoming my favorite thread.

Well it's a useful thread...that's what I like about it. I never knew what that button did before or how to use it. Now, my car seems to come to life when I push it.

Thanks. I really had not idea what that button was for. I used to just put the FOB in and nothing would happen. Now I can start and drive the car.
