new guy saying hello....
hey guys,
the name is scott, and i just wanted to make a quick post to introduce myself. i just picked up my car a few days ago and registered for this site to get to know the car better and learn as much as possible here. i've been going back in forth between audi and BMW for many years and have owned a lot of them (76 2002, 92 318is, 06 330xi, 01 TT, 04 A4, and 06 A3). anyway, recently my A3 started feeling old and i knew it was time for something new and fun. it was a last-minute toss up between an Audi S5 or the 135i, and in the end the 135i was the winner. while i do wish i had the AWD from Audi for the terrible winters around here, the BMW was just a fantastic ride and i couldnt pass it up. i commute into NYC via train every day for work, so i will really only be driving on weekends. only had the car for 3 days but spent the weekend stretching her legs. first impressions- holy CRAP! insane power, handling, and the 6mt is super smooth. this car is a keeper for sure.... its a 2012 with all options other than the M package i guess? anyway on to the pics. ive only got a few so far. more driving impressions later. (INB4 instagram hate) at the dealer with my white 06 A3 that i traded in: the thing that always made me love the 135i is the resemblance to the iconic 2002. i had a siennabraun 76 3 years ago and sold it, a big regret. yesterday i was in a parking lot and saw this amazing 76 in the same exact color mine was,so naturally i had to stop and snap a pic. bonus photo, my 50 ford i still own that will probably get driven more than the BMW for the next few months: hope to lurk here and learn as much as possible. |

Welcome to 1Addicts. If you get lots of snow... get some 17" wheels with some real snow tires on them, you will be fine.

thanks!! yeah thats the next thing i plan on getting. there are a ton of cheap sets that i have found on craigslist so i will get them soon. i live in NJ about 1 block from the train station, and i take the train to work every day in NYC, so even if the car was stranded for a week or so in the snow it wouldnt affect me too much.

thanks so much!! yeah, the ford is super primitive. it's got a flathead 8 engine with "3 on the tree" trans. 101 hp on a good day, no heat, no wipers, no power steering or brakes, no seatbelts, and no radio. that's a car i just cruise along slowly and enjoy; it's so different from anything else so it makes for a nice break from "normal" life once in a while haha.
here she is with the old audi last month: Last edited by scoTT la rock; 05-27-2014 at 12:04 PM.. |

It's black sapphire metallic with savanna beige interior in a nice 2-tone. I still have the OG window sticker and according to that it's got the cold weather package, premium package, nav, sport suspension. Doubt I'll use most of that fancy stuff but it's nice to have.
I feel like a fool for not knowing much about it yet LOL |

Welcome, be sure to stay away from curbs and parking blocks. Looks like you may have gotten away with one there but I assure you, you will scrape the bumper.

Ok so I've finally had some experience with the car this week! First thoughts were that this car would get squirrely in the rain but it behaves pretty well in the wet. The car has some hankook tires on it that may need to be changed out soon. Next purchase will be a set of dedicated winter wheels for later this year (any good suggestions on a cheaper set of beater wheels? I assume 17s).
In the dry the car is an absolute beast, and I'm so happy with the decision to come back to BMW. Only weird thing is I notice some vibration during braking sometimes, could be a bad wheel alignment or maybe a warped rotor. Hard to tell so far but I'll get it checked out. Only other weird issue is that sometimes when coming to a brisk stop, I hear what sounds like some belts squealing for a minute in the engine. That one is a head scratcher. Nothing appears loose under the hood. Anyway, thank god for a warranty! I want to get the car looked over by bmw anyway since I just got it and it does have 45k on it already. Hope to lurk through all the old posts here and learn more about the car. EDIT- when I go to the dealer, are there any big issues I should ask them to check out? any major recalls or whatever? well something is definitely weird with the car. as reported a few weeks ago, i noticed this weird sound like belts in the engine squealing during brisk braking. so i finally got a service appointment at JMK BMW and took the car in. they looked it over, verified the battery cable was replaced, and left me with a crappy toyota camry loaner while they investigated the squeal noise.
so two days later i get a call from them and at first they thought it was front brakes and rotors, so they replaced them. the problem persisted, so they then replaced the rear brakes and rotors. called me up and told me to come get the car. i drive away and all is well for a few minutes, but then i hear the squeal again and return to the dealer. thanks for the free brakes and rotors, but problem not solved guys! the plus side is that now i have a 128i loaner while they figure it out. the 128i is an automatic, stock suspension, and 17" tires. not a bad car, but not nearly as good as the 135. beats a camry i guess LOL. also, they claim that there are no other open recalls on anything despite my mention of the VANOS bolts that all of you seem to be getting letters about. weird. |

Does it sound like a squirrel in your engine bay?
