So, does anybody have 2 series envy?
Was recently at a dealer to pick up a part, and they had a couple M235i's in the lot. I have to admit I really love the looks of the car. And I paid attention to all the details as it was introduced. I have not driven one yet, but expect I will at some point.
I made the decision to keep my 1er long term a while back, and the specs on the 2 Series did not change my mind on that. Honestly I think my 1 with the PPK is still a better, or at least just as good as, performer. But I have to admit, my 1er is just starting to show her age. For now, only little things that I would see. She still turns my head when I walk away from her, but age is creeping. I also know maintenance is going to be an issue now. Already had a couple post warranty minor failures. And I know something major will eventually happen. But even with all that I have resisted temptation. But I will admit, reliving the excitement I had when I first saw my gorgeous new car waiting for me in the showroom is tempting. And I kind of feel bad about that because I still love my 1er. Anybody else? |

I think it looks great, but not interested in buying one while it still has the N55. Not that it's a bad engine, I just have a feeling BMW will swap it out in a year or two.

I do. I love the looks of the M235i especially the M-sport front. But it's pretty much the same car with updated technology. The engine is the same with a slightly better output. I just don't think it's worth the extra $20-$25k to upgrade to a marginally better car.

Giving your question some thought, the only car on the road that I envy is the 997.2 GT3. I guess it boils down to size, hp:weight, driving position, uniqueness, and (with the 1-series) the sleeper factor. On the track, there are many cars I envy.

I did not care for the looks of the 2. It appears to be just a little smaller than the 3. I like the sporty looks of the 2 and with the PPK1, I believe, they are fairly close at hp and torque.

I saw an M235 at the dealer last week. I was thinking maybe I should consider it, although the DCT wins over the 8speed. Everything else seemed the same level, but different in appearance only. Except the price tag - it was $6k over my similarly equipped 135. So no thanks.

nope, the 1's nose is not the best but the 2's is even worse, from the side it just looks odd, if they bring the hood all the way to the kidneys it would help a bit, and take out some of the pointedness of the kidneys

I got rid of my 135i and got into an E46 M3. I wouldn't even consider another 135i or the M235i. Once the M2 comes out? Definite envy then.

For the most part, no. There are a few things that the 2er has that I wish my 135 does. One of them being the PSS right off the factory. It doesn't even have to be the PSS, I just want something not as jarring as the RFTs on my 1er. I'll give it to the 2er that its face is better than the outdated look of the e82 since its release. Let's not forget the gas mileage. They also have the option to mount a factory LSD (although I don't see myself being able to take advantage of the LSD to make it worth the money.) Most importantly, they have the option to not have a sunroof...I want more headroom.
Overall, I still see my car being on equal footing as the M235i. I know there are things in my car that's better than the ones on the M235i. Even if I'm blinded by my love for my car, the difference between the two cars with the objective stuff (performance figures and other data) are not enough to justify an update of cars. |

I know this opinion isn't shared by many, but i think the 2 series looks ugly/boring. I'd never trade for that alone.

I wouldn't discount this standpoint. There are many that feel the same way.

No not at all. Well, until this morning that is when I saw a loaded M235i down the street from my house. Nice!

I went the other direction. The M3 is a way, way more engaging drive, and a turbo motor will never have NA levels of throttle response. That said, the 1 is more comfortable, and has tons more usable power on a day-to-day basis. I'm with everyone else: waiting for an M2.

Only thing I envy is how they've maybe improved some of the things the 135 failed at, but overall, no. Imo, the 1 series was sort "unique," for lack of a better word, and kind of different from the rest. The 2 imo, just looks like the rest of the lineup but in a more concise package.
Don't get me wrong, it looks damn good. The rear is where it kind of falls off. |

I don't get how some view the interior as an upgrade. It looks like a major downgrade of materials, fit and design from my perceptive.
