Oh and can someone explain the grey mirror caps that match nothing on the m235i. Is that the new version of the 1er Msport rear diffuser?

Interior looks slightly better but the new bmw design standard with the display screen glued on top of the dash is an abomination.
Not enough there to get me to switch.

The looks of the 2 have grown on me, I really like it now. I've seen a few in person, and when they're decorated with the BMW Performance parts they look great, even the rear end.
I however have heard to many complaints of the electric steering. I also do not like the 4 cylinder engine. A true shame they have ditched the N51/2. If I was buying a BMW today, the 235i is the one I'd go with. EDIT: Just looked up some interior pics. It looks Japanese, and cheap Last edited by chris82; 06-08-2014 at 07:42 PM.. |

I love the looks of the 2 series with msport. If I didnt have a 1 series I would absolutely consider a 2 but owning a 1er it isnt better enough for me to justify it at the moment.
The interior is nicer and I do like how they switched some of the plastics to softer materials so it wont creak as much as the e82. |

I hate the looks of the 2....looks like a Honda. looks like shit!! and it's heavy with a poor steering rack.

I love the 2 series headlights and the aggressive yet refined front end. Not a fan of the rest though, almost like the car was left unfinished. Interior on 2 is much nicer hands down.
I view the 2-series like the current generation Z4 (e89). It's more luxurious and the design is more pleasing or appealing to a wider car audience but the previous generation especially the coupe was way edgier. The e86 was a raw sports car. And I view the 135i in that same fashion whereas the e89 and 2 series is more for mass appeal. |

I as actually thinking about this over the weekend.
My 2012 135 convertible will run out of warranty in March 2016 and at that time I was thinking of buying something else (I will not own this car without a warranty). After 2+ years of ownership I really do love the car, so I would consider the 2-series. The problem is 1) there's no convertible yet (maybe by 2016?) and 2) its pretty expensive for what it is. Who knows what a vert will cost if and when it comes out. And as others have noted what's the status of the N55 engine? I'm guessing it will be replaced sometime fairly soon. But will the new engine actually be better or just more fuel efficient with more annoying nannies attached? And will there be quality issues the first year it comes out? So for me its not an easy decision. I haven't driven a 235 yet because I'm not ready right now. But will there be a vert in 2016? Will it have a new engine? Will their be a true M-version that comes out at some point? Luckily I have a couple years to wait. And maybe I just keep my 135 if I'm still happy with it.

Own a 135is 6MT had a chance to run a M235 8AT last week at the BMWPCD when I picked up the 435M-Sport MPPK/MPE.
The M235 is quicker & better handling than the 135is. Meaning it gets around the exact same course in less time than the 135is did when I picked it up last year. Better is in the mind of the beholder so enjoy your "better" 135is while I enjoy my not quite as good 135is.

The 2er front end design is beautiful. Rear end does not look that great, but is not terrible either. The interior on new f30s and now the 2er is not great, I prefer the e90/e82 functionality.
If they still had a hydraulic rack and inline 6 n/a, I'd get the 228i any day over the 128i. But without these two items, there's no reason to even consider it. |

Precisely. I'm not obsessed with soft touch materials, as so many others are nowadays, but the noises drive me nuts sometimes.

There's not a single new BMW I would own vs. a brand new E36, 38, 39, 46, or 82. My experience is that the newer cars are softer, heavier, and overstyled.

The 2 series is fine IMO, but I prefer the 1 series. More rare and unique and well....N54 FTW.
If the 1 series didn't exist I'd probably own a 335i right now. I've had quite a variety of cars, but honestly I can't afford any BMW brand new, so a 2 series wouldn't even be possible for me for another couple years. I picked up my 1 series at like 41k miles just outside of warranty, and I LOVE this car. The only car I've owned that I could say I LOVED like this, was a 1979 Datsun 280zx, and even that was for very different reasons. I know everyone loves to defend what they own/drive, but the 1 series really was an instant classic in my books. |

Something with the 2-series makes the rear wheels look 1" smaller than the front. It's a nice car, but something is off about it. Also it's the 1st Gen. I'm glad I got my final year 1 series instead. I drove both and made my decision with joy. Plus 16 M badges on the m235i when it's not an M car. It's disgusting. 1 series is the last true BMW IMHO

And over-gadgeted (the electronic dipstick is a prime example).

If I bought a car and they come out with a 'better' car a few months later, I don't fret. That's just the nature of our love affair with it. I'll keep a car for at least four years before buying a new one.
I was in the dealership for something or other the morning their first EB M235 arrived. Looked at it, sat in it, enjoyed seeing in it in person after months of reading and seeing pictures in the car rags. So, that takes me to 2017. Second year production M2 maybe? I like them but I dont think its worth gettting rid of a 135 to get a 235. If I didnt have my 135, the 135 didnt exist, and I was looking at BMW, Id be looking at a 235. Then again, I kind of regret not buying a 1M brand new but at the time I didnt have the money. So the wiser me, would wait for the 2M to come out.
